A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, APPROVING A MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING ENTERED INTO BETWEEN THE WAGE COMMITTEE OF THE FRATERNAL ORDER OF POLICE LODGE NO. 36, AND THE SOUTH BEND COMMON COUNCIL FOR THE ANNUAL PAY AND BENEFITS OF THE POLICE OFFICERS FOR THE CALENDAR YEAR 1980 WHEREAS, the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, and the Wage Committee of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge No. 36 have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding re- garding the salary and benefit package for 1980, marked "Exhibit A" and attached hereto; and WHEREAS, the Memorandum of Understanding incorporates two (2) basic concepts: (1) that a total of $200,000.00 be allocated among all ranks within the bargaining unit, and that such monies shall be allocated so that each per- son within the bargaining unit receive not less than $778.00 per person. The specific allocations shall be determined by the last Common Council meeting in July, 1979. (2) that the parties agree to the concept of split- ting salary increases in two separate amounts which would be effective on January 1, 1980, and on July 1, 1980. WHEREAS, the Common Council believes that the approval of the Memorandum of Understanding is in the best interest of the City. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA: SECTION I. That the Memorandum of Understanding entered into between the Wage Committee of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge No. 36 and the South Bend Common Council, dated a y i9 7Se is hereby approved. MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING BETWEEN THE WAGE COMMITTEE OF THE FRATERNAL ORDER OF POLICE LODGE NO. 36 AND THE SOUTH BEND COMMON COUNCIL This Memorandum of Understanding is entered into on this Q,! day of Q_t , 1978 between the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge No. -- 6, hereinafter referred to as "POLICE OFFICERS" and the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, hereinafter referred to as "COUNCIL ". The parties mutually agree as follows: SECTION I. Purpose. The POLICE OFFICERS and the COUNCIL have entered into this Memorandum of Understanding to incorporate all understandings previously reached with regards to the salary and benefit package for 1980. The parties hereto believe that such a memorandum sets forth the understandings which resulted from good faith bargaining sessions. The parties further believe that such a memorandum will serve the best interests of the com- munity as well as provide a means of amicably resolving the 1980 salary and benefit package. SECTION II. Allocation of $200,OODfor Salaries. The POLICE OFFICERS and COUNCIL agree that a total of Two Hundred Thousand Dollars ($200,000.00) shall be allocated among the ranks represented by the Wage Committee. The parties further agree that the specific allocation of such monies shall be determined by the parties no later than by the last Common Council meeting in July 1979. The parties also agree that such monies shall be allocated so that each person within the bargaining unit shall receive not less than Seven Hundred and Seventy -Eight Dollars ($778.00) per person. SECTION III. Split Salary Increase. The POLICE OFFICERS and COUNCIL agree two (2) separate salary increases 1, 1980. to the concept of splitting salary increases in amounts. The parties further agree that such would take effect on January 1, 1980 and July SECTION IV. Continued Good Faith Bargaining. The POLICE OFFICERS and COUNCIL agree to continue good faith bargaining on the specifics of the 1980 salary and fringe benefit package begin- ning in April of 1979. IN WITNESS WHEREOF, the parties have executed this Plemoran- dum of Understanding by their authorized representatives in South Bend, Indiana, on this day of 1978.
