A special meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Tuesday, May 31, 1960
at 4:00 P.M. All members were present.
At this meeting there was submitted to the Board a leased wherein the Lessor was
Peter F. Nemeth and Margaret K. Nemeth for the premises commonly known as
114 Chapin Street in the City of South Bend to be used by the Civil Defense.
Attached hereto and made a part hereof -is a copy of the lease.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 4:45 P.M

A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held"on Monday, June 6, 1960
at 10:00 A.M. All members were present. Minutes of the last regular meeting
were read and approved. Vouchers were approved and ordered paid to the various suppliers.
A report from Bert S. Cichowicz of the Weights & Neasures Dept. was read and ordered
placed on file. Permission was granted to attend the 45th National Conference of
Weights & Measures to be held June 6 to June 10, 1960 in Washington, D.C. ,arid report
to the Board.
The hearing set for this date involving a condemnation order for 522 E. Keasey Street
was continued for two weeks as requested by Mr. Fair's attorneYi. In a progress
report by Mr. John Grabarz, Director of the sub -standard Division of the Building
Department, Mr. Grabarz informed the Board that the continuance was requested in
order to compile estimates for the rehabilitation of this property. The request was
granted and the case will be heard on the 20th of June at 10:00 A.M.
With further reference to the purchase of base station equipment for the Police Depart-
went, the Clerk of the Board having made an investigation on the open market regard-
ing the purchase of said equipment, he is now directed to proceed with the purchase
of this equipment at a total cost of $1,550.00 from Motorola, Communications and
Electronic, Inc.
A request by Nicholas Horvath, Superintendent of the Elecgrical Department for the
following installations of 4000 lumen street lishts was approved:
906 Huey St.
36thStreet and Washington Avenue
329 N. O'Brien Street, increase street light from 1000r. lumen to 4000 lumen.
Comes now Lt. Carrol Parfitt of the Department of Civil Defense who reports that, in
accordance with authorization of the Board, the offices of the Department of Civil
Defense will move from its present location in the City Hall to 114 S. Chapin Street.
The office will start moving this date.

called the Lessee.
WITNE&SETH:
1. The Lessor herein leases unto the Lessee, subject to and upon the
terns hereinafter stated for the term of seven (7) months beginning on the lot day
of Jvmes 1960, and ending on the 31st day of December, 1960, the use and enjoy -
anent of all and singular the premises at 114 South Chapin Street, South Bead,
Indiana, as well as the use of a portion of land adjacent thereto, on which the
Lessee shall be permitted to park uat more than three (3) vehicles, all in the City
of South Bend, including all appurtenances thereto, at a rental of Two Hundred.

2. The Lessor agrees to provide heat for the above demised premises,
as well as water and electricity.

addition term of one (1) year and from year to year thereafter, on or before
ZOtk day of December, 19608 and on or before the ZOth day of December each> 3
thereafter.
4. That the Lessee has received the premises in goad order and repair
and that said Lessee will keep said premises in good repair, replacing all broken
glass with glass of the same size and quality as that broken, and will keep said
premises and appurtenances, including catch basin in a clean and healthy condi
and upon termination of this lease will yield up said premix es to the Lessor in
g condition and repair, lose by fire and -ordinary wear excepted.
5. Lessor further grants to the Lessee the right to make all reason-
able alterations, additions or changes in and to said premises, subject to the
submission of plans for said alterations, additions, or -changes to the Lessor.
The consent to said alterations, additions, or changes shall not be unreasonably
withheld by Lessor.
6. Lessee hereby further agrees that at all times during the continua-
tion of this lease it will keep said premises in a clean and wholesome condition and
comply with all legal requirements with respect to the same.
7. Lessee will allow the Lessor free access to the premises hereby
leased for the purposes of examining or exhibiting the same or to make any
needful repairs of said premises, which said Lessor may see fit to make.
8. It is hereby mutually agreed that in the event said premises are
damaged or destroyed by fire or other causes so as to render same wholly unfit
for occupancy and use thereof by Lessee, then this lease shall terminate. If,
however, only a portion of said premises are rendered unfits Lessee may remain
on the said portion thereof and the rent for the unfit portion shall abate, or the
Lessee may declare this lease terminated.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, the parties have hereto set their hands and
seals on the day and date first above written.
