A special meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Wednesday, May 189 1960
at 10:00 A.M. All members were present. The following was conducted:
It has come to the attention of the Board of Safety that certain personnel under they:
jurisdiction of the Police and Fire Departments of the City of South Bend are on their
off time acting in the capacity of bar tenders. It is the finding of the Board at this
time that hereafter no policemen or firemen'.shall be permitted to engage in the occu-
pation of bartending. Therefore, it is requested that a notice be directed to the'
Chiefs of the Fire and Police Departments to be disseminated to all personnel and this
order and notice become a matter of knowledge to each. Letters regarding same -will be
forwarded to both Chiefs.
There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting was called ad-
journed at 10:20 A.M.

A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday, May 23, ;960
at 10:00 A,:M. All members were present. Minutes of the last regular meeting and
the special meeting of May 18, 1960 were read and approved. Vouchers were approved
and ordered paid to the various suppliers.
A Special Police Bond for Charles W. Rockwell is now approved.
An application for the Police Department frc Rohert Roland Werntz was examined
and ordered placed on file.
The Fire Chief requests permission to send Battalion Chief Lederer to attend a
one day conference on Rescue Training at Purdue University on Wednesday, May 25,
1960. The request was granted.
There being no further business to come before the Board,,the meetis called
adjourned at 10:45 A,M.
