The Board hereby awards the bid for the Police Department cars to Newman Altman Company as follows: Newman Altman Company South Bend, Indiana Four (4) 1960 V-W4 4-door Sedans Total bid price ------ $7,571.40 Permission is now granted to the Downtown Council to place the wooden containers with the different types of trees throughout the downtown area for beautification :purposes. SABO, CLERK April 259 1960 - _7� ".� I d, J ( CHAIR N A special meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday, at 9:30 A.M. All members were present. This being the date set, hearing was held before the Board of Public Safety in regards to an applicant of the South Bend Fire Department, namely a one John Cunningham who re- sides at 413 S. 26th Street, South Bend, Indiana. Comes now said Cunningham who has been charged for Violation of Article XIV, Section 6 of the Rules and Regulations of the South Bend Fire Department, which said charge reads as follows: CHARGE FOR VIOLATION OF THE RULES AND REGULATIONS OF THE SOUTH BEND FIRE DE- PARTMENT _ ART. XIV, Section 6 That the said John Cunningham, on the 13th day of April, 1960, violated Article XIV, Section 6 of the Rules and Regulations of the South Bend Fire Department, which said regulation reads as follows: ARTICLE XIV. Section 6. In matters of general conduct, not within the scope of Department rules, said members shall be governed by the ordinary rules of good behavior observed by law-abiding and self-respecting citizens, and shall have charges preferred against them for conduct tending to bring reproach or reflection upon the Department. That the violation of said rule and regulation occurred in the following manner: On the 13th day of April, 1960, the said John Cunningham did conduct himself according to the ordinary rules of good behavior observed by law-abiding and self-respecting citizens, but in a manner tending to bring reproach and reflection upon the Department, drove his ve- hicle while under the influence of intoxicants and did in a careless and reckless manner endanger life and property; that on the 18th day of April, 1960 said John Cunningham pled guilty to a charge of driving while intoxicated in the South Bend City Court under Cause No. 41667 titled State of Indiana vs John Edward Cunningham, alias Jack Cunningham. Board of Public Works & Safety Dated April 19, 1960 By: Irving J. Smith, President Said Cunningham waves the hearing at regular meeting time to be held as special meet- ing at 9:30 A.M. this date. Chairman Smith now reads the charge and said Cunningham acknowledges receipt of same having been served upon him personally by Assistant Chief John H. Andert of the South Bend Fire Department, and that he admits that he was in vi- olation of said charge and states further that he pleads guilty with reference to same. After due consideration, the Board made the following finding: That said John Cunning- ham will be fined two(2) weeks gross pay to be deducted from his paycheck over a month's period beginning May 19 1960. There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting wa�called adjourned at 9:45 A.M. --� CHAIRMAN r ATTEST: ANTHONY AB09 CLERK April 26, 1960 A special meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Tuesday, April 26, 1960 at .8:30 A.M. 'All members were present. The Board having set a special meeting for this date in reference to a request to the removal of a house at 2618 Bertrand Street to 2418 Rogers Street, comes now Homer Me - Lott, and requests that the remonstrance be withdrawn and the Building Commissioner now informs the Board that certain requirements have been set up to the mover and the owner prior to moving said building. The requirements as set out are as follows: a. Adequate foundations. b. Complete check of electrical service`and wiring to insure compliance with code requirements. c. Complete check of plumbing systems to insure code requirements. s--+ Plus all other applicable requirements of Ordinance No. 4268-59. Comes now Herman Miller, being represented by Lloyd Anderson, petitioner for removal ' of the house located at 2621 Kenwood to 2900 Westmore Street and Ervin Boehm, remon- strator to said petition to move said house to same addition. The Building Commissioner also appeared in regards to said petition and informs the Board that certain requirements must be met before he recommends the removal of said house. The requirements and reco- mmendations are as follows: Recommendations: a. The cellar be dug to a depth so as to bring the structure to the lowest possible height. b. General painting of exterior. Requirements: a. The electrical system be repaired or replaced to meet code requirements. b.The plumbing system to have thorough check to insure complete code requirements for installations and venting. c. The rotted or otherwise deteriorated sill plates be replaced. d. Adequate supports or joist system for front porch. e. Repair and redecorating of interior plus all applicable re- quirements of Ordinance No. 4268-59. Mr. Boehm informs the Board at this time that he has discussed with Mr. Miller this matter and Mr. Miller agrees that each and every recommendation and requirement as set out in the Building Code as submitted to him by Mr. Lane will be effected to said house in order to have it conform with other house in that area. The Board having examined the facts, now grants said moving permit. Comes now the owner of the building at 702 Western Avenue and also Verner Lane and re- quests permission on behalf of the property owner that he be permitted to have a smoke pipe for a barbecue pit to extend over public property. Mr. Lane informs the Board that the Building Dgartment has examined said matter and have no objections to said petition. The Board having examined evidence therefore granted the owner his request. However, said owner is directed to submit to the Board insurance for personal injury, property damage, and liability indemnifying the City of South Bend. The Building Commissioner and John Grabarz are hereby given permission to attend the annual Building Official Conference of America in Miami Beach, Florida on May 22 thru May 26, 1960. Mr. Lane informs the Board that he has sufficient monies available in his budget to cover the expenses and the Board grants permission to depart from the City on the 16th day of May, 1960 or any time thereafter. Permission is hereby granted to the River Park Methodist Church, 920 S. 23rd Street to advertise a Benefit Pancake Fry on Saturday, April 30, 1960 as so requested by Howard Cutner, 3410 E. Jefferson. It is understood that the advertising will be from a P.A. System on a car, and further that it will be kept low enough as not to create a noise nuisance.
