Minutes of the previous regular meeting were read and approved. Applications for the Fire Department are hereby accepted and placed on file for Al- oysius Slaby. Nick Horvath recommends installation of the following street lights: 4000 lumen at: Westwood Lane and Idlewood 256=Westwood Lane 232 Westwood Lane 224 Westwood Lane 4-on Rilbourde Road, from Portage Avenue to Colfax Avenue 6000 lumen at: 8-on Portage Avenue, from Lathrop to Colfax Road Applications for the Police Auxiliary School Patrol are hereby accepted and placed on file for Genevieve Scott. The Clerk of the Board is directed to advertise for 4 sedans for the Police Department. Special police application is hereby accepted and placed on file for Virgil Kenneth Name. l.t A petition is hereby received from Mr. and Mrs. G. H. Jones, 2629 West Washington Street petitioning for street- lighting from'2624 W. Washington to the alley. Minutes of the previous regular meeting were read and approved. A petition is hereby received asking for the improvement of Pennsylvania Avenue from High Street to Hoffman Court by the construction of street lighting at Hoffman Ct. and Pennsylvania Avenue. Petition referred to the Electrical Department for investi- gation and report back to the Board. Nicholas Horvath, Supt. of the Electrical Department, recommends installation of the following street lights which the Board approves: 4000 lumen light at Washington and.Logan Streets 4000 lumen lights at 2629 West Washington Avenue 10,000 lumen light at McKinley and Logan Streets Comes now Bert S. Cichowioz, City Sealer, and submits to the Board the monthly report for March, 1960. Accepted and placed on file. Further, Mr. Cichowicz, is granted permission to attend the 47th Annual Conference of Indiana Association of Inspectors of Weights and Measures which will be held in Fort Wayne, Indiana on April 18, 19,and 20, 1960. Comes now Fire Chief Andrzejewski and requests permission of your Honorable Board for Capt. Robert Rzepka to attend the Purdue University Arson School to be held in West Lafayette, Indiana, on Monday, April 25 through April 29, 1960. Permission granted. There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting was called ad- journed at 10:35 A.M. n ATTEST: ANT IONS'/54 SABO, CLERK \,1 / April 18, 1960 A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday, April 18, 1960 at 10:00 A.M. All members were present. Minutes of the previous regular meeting were read and approved. (Irving J. Smith was absent) Comes now Nick Horvath, Supt. of the Electrical Department, and recommends installa- tion of a 4000 lumen light at Hoffman Court and Pennsylvania Avenue. At the April llth regular meeting of the Council, a petition requesting the improve- ment of the end of the alley on Howard Street from Lawrence Street to Hill Street by street lighting was referred to the Board for action as so motioned by Councilman Tell - son and seconded by Councilman Muszynski. Said petition is now referred to the City Electrical Department for investigation and recommendation. A petition is hereby presented to the Board by Joseph J. Horvath, 1908 S. Kemble.and several others asking for the improvement of the intersections of Ewing and Meade Sts., Ewing and Wabash Streets, Meade and Delaware Streets, and Wabash and Calvert Streets by the construction of street lighting. Referred to Nick Horvath of the Electrical Department for investigation and recommendation. Applications for the Police Department were examined and placed on file for Kay James and Richard Bagarus. Applications for the Fire Department are examined and placed on file for Martin Mersich. Comes now Leroy C. Barritt of the South Bend Police Department and requests permission to have his original leave which started on January 16, 1960 to be extended for 1 year from said date which would be January 169 1961. Permission granted. Comes now John Grabarz of the Building Department, appearing with '. C. McGee, who re- sides at 506 Keasey reference to remodeling and repairing a home at 615 E. Ohio Street. The Board hereby grants a 60 day period from date to complete said repairs with the understanding that Mr. McGee will appear within 30 days, namely on May 16, 1960 before the Board to give a progress report, and if progress is satisfactory, then the Board will allow the remaining 30 days to finish the project. The Board herebyapproves the appointment of Thomas Herma to the South Bend Fire Depart- ment. Said applicants have passed all required written examinations and the physical examinations by,the City Doctor and further having been accepted for membership in the Pension Fund of the Fire Department, his appointment shall become effective the 18th day of May, 1960. The time now *ng 'l.after 10:00' A.M. it was so announced and the bids for the Police De- partment were opened and read aloud. Proofs of publication in the South Bend Tribune with an affidavit signed by Rpbert DeLong and in The Record with an affidavit signed by Ruby McMahon were submitted to-t-he Board and found sufficient. The bids received read as follows: Police Department Newman Altman Company South Bend, Indiana Four (4) 1960 V-W4 4-door Sedans Total bid price ----- $7,571.40 Freeman Spicer Company South Bend, Indiana Four (4)1960 Studebaker Lark Deluxe 4-door sedans Total bid price ----- $79663.44 The bids will be taken under advisement and study and will be awarded on or before the next regular Board meeting on Monday, April 25, 1960.
