A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works & Safety was held on Monday, March
289 1960 at 10:00 A.M. All members were present. Minutes of the previous regular
meeting were read and approved.
The Board hereby approves the recommendation of the Electrical Department superintendent
for the installation of street lighting in the new Washington School area as follows:
2 - 21,000 lumen U. G. steel post lights on Summit, north of Washington
12 - 21,000 lumen U G. steel post lights on north side of Washington Ave.,
. between Summit and Lombardy
5 - 21,000 lumen U. G. steel post lights on Summit, south of Washington to'
Western Avenue
6 - 21,000 lumen U. G. steel post lights on Lombardy, south of Washington to
Western Avenue, after Lombardy pavement has been completed.
Also approved is the-Western
of the following street lighting for Maggie's Court:
13 - 6000 lumen overhead lights
1 - 6000 lumen underground light
Remove 2 - 4000 lumen lights
1 - 1000 lumen light
1 - 2500 lumen light
The Board hereby approves the recommendation of the Fire Chief for the promotion of Lt.
Ted Zmudzinski to the -rank of Captain, his assignment to be left to the Fire Chief,
effective as of April 1, 1960
The monthly report of the Police Department is hereby accepted and placed on file.
Special police bondsapprovedfor Louis Tomshock.
Applications for the Police Auxiliary School Patrol were examined and placed on file for
Irene Grzegorek.
The hearing set for this date reference to the property owned by I. C. McGee is hereby
continued for 2 weeks. Hearing to be held on April 11, 1960.
The Board hereby approves the appointment of Ernest Reed and Joseph DeBuysser to the South
Bend Fire Department. Said applicants have passed all required written examinations and
the physical examinations by the City Doctor and further having been accepted for member-
ship in the Pension Fundof the Fire Department, their appointment shall become effective
the 1st day of April, 1960.
There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting was called adjourn-
ed at 10:35 A.M.
