All members were present. Minutes of the previous regular meeting.were read and approved. Applications for the Police Department were examined and placed on file for Charles Harper. Applications for the Fire Department were examined and placed on file for Horace Fields, James Anastos, and James Ham. Special police application permit is hereby approved for Paul H. Miller. Comes now Acting Chief, Richard Burkhart, and submits a request to the Board on behalf of Capt. M. Zarembka, Pistol Team Captain, for permission to enter a four man team in the Mid -Winter Pistol Matches to be held at Coral Gables, Florida, from March 14 thru March 19, 1960 with a warm up match to be fired on March 13th. If this matter is pass- ed, we wish to inform you that travel time will be from March loth to March 22nd. Per- mission granted. There being no further business to come before the Boards the meeting was called adjourned at 10:25 A.M. EST: ANT H0V4 J. SABO, CLERK. February 29, 1960 A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Mondayp February:299 1960 at 1Os00 A.M. All members were present. Minutes of the previous regular meeting were read and approved. Applications for the Fire Department are hereby examined and placed on file for Joseph Szucsits. Applications for the Police Auxiliary School Patrol are hereby examined and placed on file for Mary Ward. The Clerk of the Board is directed to advertise for four (4) new vehicles for the Police Department and further to re -advertise for a Base Station for the Police Radio Shop. The monthly report of the Police Department is hereby accepted and placed on file. The Board hereby approves the appointment of Salvatore Lazarra to the South Bend Police Department. Said applicant having passed all required written examinations and the phy- sical examination by the City Doctor and further having been accepted for membership in the Pension Fund of the Police Department, his appointment will become effective the 1st day of March, 1960. The Board further approves the appointment of Robert Rogers, John Vvkovits, and James, Cauley to the South Bend Fire Department. Said applicants have all passed the required 'Written examinations and the physical examination by the City Doctbr and further having been accepted for membership in the Pension Fund of the Fire Department, their appoint- ment will become effective the 1st day of March, 1960. The bid for the Fire Department fire apparatus is hereby awarded to Maxin Motor Company for the total bid price to the City of $26, 973.33. Nick Horvath, Electrical Department Superintendent, recommends installation of 4000 lumen lights at 734 S. Falcon, 316 Birdsell, and 316 Studebaker Street and a 2500 lumen light at 525 S. Phillipa Street (rear cross alley.) Due to a discrepancy in the bid on a Base Station for the South Bend Police Department, the awarding of the bid to the Motorola.C. & E. Company is hereby rescinded and the Clerk of the Board is authorized to re -advertise for said Base Station with new specifications.
