A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday, January 25, 1960
at 10:00 A.M. All members were present. Minutes of the previous regular meeting were
read and approved.
The Board hereby enters into an agreement with the Portage Township for, fire protection
service for said township for the year 1960. Signed this 25th day of January, 1960
and placed on file in the office of the Board.
The Clerk of the Board is directed to advertise for a Fire Apparatus for the South
Bend Fire Department and also a Base Station for the Radio Shop of the South Bend
Police Department.
Applications for the South Bend Fire Department are hereby examined and placed on file
for Noel Maxwell, Martin Hitt, Edmund Gorka, William Jones, and Theodore Cebulski.
Applications for the Police Department are examined and placed on file for Cloyde
Coffman, Hoel Maxwell, William Hock, and Carl Zwierzynski.
Applications for the Police Auxiliary School Patrol are examined and placed on file for
Helen Mandich.
The monthly report of the Police Department is hereby accepted and placed on file.
r� The Board hereby approves .the appointment of Daniel W. Tafelski to the South Bend Fire
Department. Said applicant has passed all required written examinations and the phy-
sical examination by the City Doctor and further has been accepted for membership in
the Pension Fund of the respective department, his appointment will become effective
the 1st day of February, 1960.
The time now being after 10:00 A.M. it was so announced and the bids for the Police
Department sedans were opened and read aloud. Proofs of publication in the South Bend
Tribune with an affidavit signed by Robert DeLong and in the Record with an affidavit
signed by E. H. Hickey were submitted to the Board and found sufficient. The bids re-
ceived read as follows:

Two (2) 1960 Larks Regal Deluxe 4-door Sedans
Total bid price ------- $4490.00
Newman Altman Company
South Bend, Indiana
Two (2) 1960 V-716, Lark Regal V8 4-door Sedan
Total bid price -------- $4417.96
The bids will be taken under advisement and study and will be awarded at the next
regular Board meeting.
There being no further business to come before the Board, the meing was called ad-
journed at 10:40 A.M.
