A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday, January 11, 1960
at 10:00 A.M. All members were present. Minutes of the previous regular meeting
were read and approved. Voucher Nos. 5581 through 5856 were approved and ordered paid
to the various suppliers.
Special police bond approved for John James Leader.
Special police application approved for Julius Musick, 513 W. Jefferson Blvd.
The Clerk of the Board is directed to advertise for 2 sedans for the Police Depart-
ment.
Applications for the Police Department are examined and placed on file for Spandward
Mitchem.
Applications for the Fire Department are examined and placed on file for August Brenner,
James Newburn, Gerald Youts, Ray Wroblewski, Robert Crawford, Robert Feiser, Larry An-
derson.
Applications for the Police Auxiliary School Patrol examined and placed on file for
Helen Vleaminck.
Comes now Chief Dutrieux and recommends to the Board the Promotions of Patrolmen Dan
�.., Nowak and Ervin Plencner to the rank of Sergeant to become effective the 16th day of
January, 1960. Board approves slid recommendation.
A petition is hereby presented to the Board from Dasimir Niedbala, 1820 W. Sample
and several others asking for the improvement of West Sample at Brookfield by con-
struction of street lighting. Referred to Nick Horvath of the Electrical Department
for investigation and recommendation.

Board approves above mentioned
light installation.
Comes now Chief of the Fire Department and submits a letter regarding Fire Station #29
wherein he and Ray Andrysiak, City Engineer, recommend that certain altercations be
made. Ray Andrysiak, now makes a motion that Callix Miller, Architect and Engineer,
be retained for the purpose of preparing estimates and specifications for rehabilit-
ation of Station #2. Board hereby approves said motion and a letter authorizing Mr.
Miller reference same is hereby directed to him.
The Board hereby approves the appointment of Emery G. Molnar to the South Bend Police
Department and Edward E. Urbanski to the Fire Department. Said applicants having
passed all required written examinations and the physical examination by the City
Doctor and further having been accepted for membership in the Pension Funds of re-
spective departments, their appointment will become effective the llth day of Janu-
ary, 1960 for said Molnar and the 16th day of January, 1960 for said Urbanski.

There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting was called
adjourned at 10:25 A.M.

A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday, January 189
1960 at 10:00 A.M. All members were present. Minutes of the previous regular meet-
ing were read and approved.
Applications for the Police Auxiliary School Patrol are hereby examined and placed on
file for Kathryn Pope.
Special Police applications approved and placed on file for Julius L. Pallo and Syl-
vester Zell.
The monthly report of the Weights & Measures Department is hereby accepted and placed
on file.
The Board hereby approves the recommendation of the Electrical Department Superintendent
to install a 4000 lumen street light at the intersection of Sample and Brookfield Sts-
A petition is hereby received from MR. and Mrs. Joseph Kruk, 411 S. Camden Street and
several others asking for the improvement of the middle of the block between Western
and Huron on Camden by the construction of street lighting. Petition referred to the
City Electrical Department for investigation and recommendation.
The Board hereby approves the bid of Ham The Wrecker in the amount of $565.00 for de-
molition of a two story frame dwelling and a one-story accessory dwelling at 2621
Linden Avenue as so advertised by the Building Department.
The Clerk of the Board is directed to advertise for a 60 Watt Base Station for the
South Bend Police Department conditioned upon approval by the Controller that there
is sufficient funds for said bid.
Comes now Officer Leroy C. Barritt, of the South Bend Police Department, and makes
a request to the Board for a leave of absence from his present duties with the De-
partment effective at the start of the pay period, January 15, 1960 to February 15,
1960. Further, Officer Barritt states that he understands that he will draw no com-
pensation from the department during the time of this leave. Request granted.
There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting was called ad-
journed at 10:40 A.M.
