Minutes of the previous regular meeting were read and approved. Claims in the total amount of $4909.88 were approved and ordered paid to the following suppliers: American Dist. Ziegler 81.00 Comes now Walter Malone and submits to the Board his estimates for cost of repairing a building he owns on the premises of 123 S. Dundee Street. Said Malone informs the Board that he will make the necessary improvements to bring the building up to Build- ing Code requirements. After examining said estimates, the Board now grants to Mr. Malone until the 14th day of September, 1959 to bring the premises up to livable con- dition in conformance with the Building Code of the City of South Bend, Indiana. A request is hereby submitted to the Board from Capt. James Trevey of the Civil De- fense that he be relieved of his duties as Executive Director of Civil Defense and be returned to an assignment in the Police Department to become effective as of the 15th day of May, 1959. The Board will now appoint Lt. Carroll Parfitt as Executive Director of the Civil Defense to replace Capt. Trevey. Special police application is hereby approved for Bernie Witucki, 19642 Dubois. Application for the Police Department are hereby approved and placed on file for John McCallister. Application for the Police Auxiliary School are approved and placed on file for Gertrude Kilgore. The Clerk of the Board is directed to advertise for One (1) Desk Model Deceptograph for the South Bend Police Department. The Board hereby approves the recommendation of Nicholas Horvath, Superintendent of the Electrical Department, that George Ladewski be appointed as foremen of the lineman'.1to become effective the lst day of June, 1959. 1 1 1 31 r- Ff; 1 1 Nick Horvath, Supt. of the Electrical Department, recommends the installation of the following 4000 lumen street lights: Elmer and Pershing Streets Elmer and Bergan Streets 2613 West Huron Street Permission is hereby granted to Officer Voss to attend armed services at Bunker Hill Air Force Base, SAC, in Peru, Indiana on May 17 through May 31st, 1959. There, being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting was called ad- journed at 10:30 ,A.M.. ,, Attest: Anth J. Sabo, Clerk May 15, 1959 A special ;.meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Friday, May 159 1959 at 10:00 A.M. All members were present. Minutes of the previous meeting were read. The following business was transacted at this meeting: Comes now Acting Chief of"Police, Richard E. Burkhart, and informs the Board that it is the recommendation of the Chief of Police that Officer John Niezgodski be promoted to the rank of Sergeant as of May 16, 1959, and that Sergeant Louis Hor- vath.be demoted to the rank of Patrolman as of May 16, 1959. The Board hereby accepts and approves abovementioned recommendation and will be- come effective as of the 16th day of May, 1959.
