A special meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Wednesday, Janu-
ary 14, 1959 at 2:00 P.M. All members were present. The following business
was transacted at this meeting.
The Board of Public Safety of the City of South Bend, Indiana hereby approves
the appointment of Matthew Phillip Strantz, to the City Fire Department . Said
applicant has passed all required written examinations and physical examinations
by both the City Doctor and the Pension Board Doctor and also having been found
acceptable for membersh1p in the Firemen's Pension Fund, his appointment will be-
come effective as of the 16th day of January, 1959.
There being no other business to come before the,Board, the sheeting was adjourn-
ed ,at 2:20 P.M.

A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday, January 19,
1959 at 10:00 A.M.• All members were present. Minutes of the previ6us regular

Officer John A. Haney of the South Bend Police Department appears before the
Board in answer to Charges of Violation 9 of the Rules and Regulations of the
South Bend Police Department. Further included in the minutes this date is a
copy of the Charge for Violation of Regulation 9 of the Rules and Regulations
of the Police Department. of South Bend. That the said Sohn A. Haney is charged
as follows:
That on or about the 12th day of January, 1959 at or about 9:45 P.M.
said John A. Haney conducted himself in the basement of the City Hall
to -wit: a room occupied by the desk sergeant and others officers -of the
