Applications for the Fire Department are hereby approved and placed on file for
John Kifowit.
Applications for the Police Department were examined and placed on file for Ralph
Florkowski.
A letter is hereby received from Sarah Rogers in regards to a condemnation order
issued to her and after study of said letter, the Board now directs the Building
Department to notify Sarah Rogers and arrange fora .hearing -before the Board of
Public Works & Safety next Monday, October 27, 1958 at 10:00 A.M. Comes now a
one Mr. William Farabaugh, Attorney on behalf of Victor and Marie Smet, 625 East
Farneman. Said Farabuagh's have been issued a condemnation order on a dwelling
at this location and Mr. Farabaugh at this time requests that no action be taken
on the matter and that presently the dwelling is inhabited. Further the building
will be striped to minimum code requirements and then will be sold. The Board now
directs the Building Commissioner to takenecessarysteps to see that the building
is not occupied duringthe time until this is done so therfor the request of Mr.
Farabaugh is accepted on these conditions.
There being no further business to come before the Board, it was so announced'and
the meeting was adjourned at 10:45 A.M.

Applications for the Fire Department were approved and placed on file for Joseph
McMahon and Robert Ulbricht.
Applications for the Police Auxiliary School Patrol were examined and placed on
file for Anna Menzie.
Nicholas Horvath, Supt. of the Electrical Department, recommends the installation
of the following street lights:
119 N. Francis Street
900 block W. LaSalle Avenue, 4000 lumen
730 Twenty -Sixth Street, 4000 lumen
Byron Drive and Coral Drive, 4000 lumen
3800 Springbrook Drive, 4000 lumen
Comes now Gladys Stovall, 10162 South Main Street before the Board with reference
to an appeal of the action from the Building Department for a condemnation order
against a dwelling at said location. It is now determined that the Building will
be used as an auxiliary building and not as a dwelling for residence, therefore,
the order of condemnation will be dismissed.
Also, appearing now -on behalf of Henry and Sara Rogers, 1111 S. Chestnut Street
is Mr. Russell Fisher, Attorney in regards to a hearing for condemnation ofaa
dwelling located at 101 S. Kentucky Street and owned by said Rogers'. Mr. Fisher
reports that the Rogers have since employed a licensed plumber and electrician
and requests that they be given a stay of execution until such time as they are
able to submit plans and proof to the Building Department for correction of ::said
dwelling to comply with Building Code requirements. Therefore, this hearing will
be continued for three weeks and will be held then on November 17, 1958, at 10:00
A.M. in the office of the Board of Public Works and Safety.
Petitions as follows from Mr. Frank Barna, 1012 W. Colfax and several others pe-
titioning for the erection of street lighting at the alley between 1011 and 1015
West Colfax Avenue (said alley being the first alley west of St. Paul's Church on
the north side of W. Colfax); from Major Joseph J. Reicher, 526 Leland Avenue to
erect a light at 517 Leland Avenue; from Eugene T. Policinski, 1050 North Huey St.
for a street light at 1026 North Huey Street; from Carolyn Schmanske, 9152 West
LaSalle Avenue by placing a street light at or near Seebirt Place, or at the end
of the 800 block of West LaSalle Avenue. All petitions are now referred to the
office of the City Electrical Superintendent's office for investigation and fur-
ther recommendation.
There being no further business to come before the Board, it was so announced that
the Board meeting be adjourned at 10:45 &N.
