Police Chief Dutrieux and Ins. Hazinski hereby request permission to attend
a conference on safety in Detroit, Michigan on May 1 and May 2, 1958. Permission
granted.
Three members of the F. 0. P. committee appeared before the Board and requested
permission from the Board for the City to lease a portion of the site at the
Firing Range for the purpose of constructing a building for the F. 0. P. bene-
fits. The Board now informs the committee that they must first submit exact
footage of the area involved and after consideration a Resolution would be a-
dopted confirming said matter.
There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting was ad-
journed at 10:55 A.M.

A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday, May 59
1958 at 10:00 A.M. All members were present. Minutes of the previous regu-
lar meeting were read apd approved. Claims in the total amount of $2182.90
were approved and ordered paid to the following suppliers:

A letter is hereby directed to the Fire Chief to investigate the possibility
of getting together his rookies and others to burn the huge pile of trash lo-
cated at Pinhook Park which was accumulated from the river bank cleanup pro-
gram of last year.
Special police applications are now approved for J. P. Goldsmith, 2423 Crest
Avenue and Michael Grubbs, 2122 S. Lafayette Street.
The time now being after 10:00 A.M. it was so announced and the Bids for
the South -Bend Police Department were opened. Proofs of publication with
an affidavit signed by C. G. Livengood of the South Bend Tribune and proofs
of publication with an affidavit signed by W. DeCanio were submitted to the
Board and found sufficient. The single bid received reads as follows:

The above named bid being the bnly bid received and after thorough investi-
gation and checking, the bid will now be awarded to Freeman Spicer inasmuch
as it meets with all requirements as -:called for in the specifications.
Hartman Builders, Inc. now submits to the Board three (3) petitions for the
improvement of Woodbine Way from Ardmore Trail to Brentwood Drive; Sheridan
Avenue from Brentwood to St. Johns Way; and St. Johns Way from Sheridan Avenue
to Ryer Street by the construction of street lighting as requested by said Hart-
man Builders, Inc. Petitions are now referred to the City Electrical Department
for investigation and recommendation.
Nicholas Horvath, Electrical Department, recommends the installation of the
following 4000 lumen lights:

225 North Kenmore Street
1838 North Huey Street
Intersection of Johnson and Lathrop Streets
2227 North Johnson Street
