RESOLUTION NO. 641 " 79
A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND
TO CONVEY CERTAIN REAL ESTATE TO THE DEPARTMENT
OF REDEVELOPMENT IN EXCHANGE FOR REAL ESTATE
OWNED BY THE DEPARTMENT OF REDEVELOPMENT
WHEREAS, the City of South Bend acting by and through its
Board of Public Works has an option to purchase certain real estate
known as the Odd Fellows Building for $288,000.00; and the Common
Council of the City of South Bend has appropriated said sum for the
purchase of said Building; and the City of South Bend intends to
exercise said option and complete the purchase thereof.
WHEREAS, the City of South Bend through its Department of
Redevelopment owns 3.9 acres of land located in the City of South
Bend, Indiana, known as Disposition Parcel No. 6 -2, which property
has an approximate value of $160,000.00.
WHEREAS, the City of South Bend through its Department of
Redevelopment owns 0.9 acres of land located in the City of South
Bend, Indiana, known as Disposition Parcel No. 2 -13, which property
has an approximate value of $103,900.00.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Common Council of the
City of South Bend, Indiana:
SECTION I. The City of South Bend acting by and through its
Board of Public Works is hereby authorized, after the exercise of
the option to purchase the real estate commonly described as the
Odd Fellows Building located in the City of South Bend, Indiana to
transfer, exchange and convey said real estate to the Department of
Redevelopment in exchange for the conveyance by the Department of
Redevelopment to the City of South Bend of real estate located in the
City of South Bend, known as Disposition Parcel Nos. 6 -2 and 2 -13,
and consisting in total of 4.8 acres.
SECTION II. This Resolution shall be in full force and effect
from and after its passage by the Common Council, and its approval
by the Mayor.

Attached is a resolution which seeks Council
approval of the exchange of certain real estate between
the Board of Public Works and Department of Redevelopment.
Essentially, the resolution would authorize the
trade of the Odd Fellows Building in exchange for the
triangular parcel of land in front of the Morris Civic
Auditorium, as well as the developed Plaza Park which
is situated along the river on Block 6. It is the
administration's intention to then convey both of the
last described properties to the Park Department so
that this property may remain open space for the
future.
Your unanimous support of this resolution is
