A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday, August 5,
1957 at 10:00 A.M. (DST). All members were piesent. Minutes of the previous
regular meeting wePe read and approved. Claims in the total amount of $18,446.45

Application for Special Police permit is hereby approved for Leonard Krulewitch.
Officer Esarey hereby requests permission to be..granted'a Military leave of absence
from police duty from August 8 thru August 252 inclusive. Permission granted.
Officer Leonard Krulewitch requests permission to start his leave termination Aug-
ust 59 1957 and will retire from the Department August 209 1957. Permission grant-
ed.
Applications for the Fire Department are hereby examined and placed on file for
Hilary Staszewski and Frank Kaniewski.
Fire Chief Andrzjewski requests permission to attend a convention on the 7th and
8th days of August, 1957. Permission granted.
This being the date set, hearing was held before the Board of Public Safety in
the matter of Clem J. Sikorski regarding charges against him for violation of
Section 16 and Section 25 of the Rules and Regulations of the Fire Department of
the City of South Bend.
That Clem J. Sikorski is charged as follows:
That on the 31st day of July, 1957, at or about 9:00 A.M., said Clem J. Sik-
orski was under the influence of intoxicating liquors in Station #12 at Gladstone
and Western Avenue in the City of South Bend; that the actions of said Clem J.
Sikorski in being under the influence of intoxicating liquors while on duty as
set out above is contrary to Section 16 of the Rules and Regulations of the Fire
Department of South Bend.
That the said Clem J. Sikorski is further charged as follows:
That on the 31st day 6f July, 19572 at or about 9:15 P.M., said Clem J. Sik-
orski left the Fire Station No. 12 at Gladstone and Western Avenue in the City
of South Bend, while on duty, and without permission of the office in charge.
That the action of said Clem J. Sikorski in leaving the fire station while on
duty and without permission of the officer in charge as set out herein is con-
trary to Section 25 of the Rules and Regulations of the Fire Department of South
Bend.
Clem J. Sikorski at this time admits that he received the notice bfuthe hearing
to be held before the Board of Public Safety this 5th day of August, 1957 at
10:00 A.M. (DST) on his violation of Section 16 and Section 25 of the Rules and
Regulations of the Fire Department of the City of South Bend as served personally
by Batt. Chief Stanley Olejniczak.
Chairman Smith now reads the charges as filed against said Sikorski and also th e
Section 16 and Section 25 of the Rules and Regulations of the.Fire Department of
the City of South Bend. Clem J. Sikorski admits that he was in violation of both
sections and pleads guilty to the charges.
After due consideration, the BOARD makes the following finding in regards to said
Sikorski:
Clem J. Sikorski will be fined one (1) month's salary, effective as
of August 29 1957. Clem J. Sikorski having appeared before the Board in person
and also having examined charges that were read to him, he admits to both charges
and based upon his admission he is found guilty.
There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting was adjourned
at 10:45 A.M. (DST).
