A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, RECOMMENDING THAT THE
BOARD OF SCHOOL TRUSTEES OF THE SOUTH BEND COM-
MUNITY SCHOOL CORPORATION GIVE GREATER NOTIFICATION
TO THE PUBLIC AND PUBLIC OFFICIALS WHEN SEEKING
OPTIONS TO PURCHASE SCHOOL CORPORATION PROPERTY
WHEREAS, the Common Council of the City of South Bend,
Indiana, recognizes that the Board of School Trustees of the
South Bend Community School Corporation is charged with the
responsibility of determining the most fiscally sound use of
its' properties and
WHEREAS, the Council realizes that the Board is faced
with problems of declining enrollment �F•.nd shrinking budgets; and
WHEREAS, the Council believes that the decision to sell any
unnecessary or surplus school corporation property is a decision
which affects not only the immediate and surrounding neighborhood,
but the community at large; and
WHEREAS, the recent Board meetings held on the possible sale
of the Central Career Center and a multi- acre vacant lot across
from Nuner School demonstrate the need for more notification to
the public and public officials, and for more input from these
groups.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Common Council of the
City of South Bend, Indiana, as follows:
SECTION I. That the Common Council of the City of South
Bend, Indiana, recommends that the Board of School Trustees of the
South Bend Community School Corporation give reasonably written
notice to the public and elected public officials in the City of
meetings called for the purpose of selling unnecessary or surplus
school corporation property.
SECTION II. That since the sale of school corporation property
affects not only the immediate neighborhood but also the City at
large, that the best interests of the City would be best served by
greater notification and more public input.
SECTION III. This Resolution shall be in full force and
effect from and after its adoption by the Common Council and
approval by the Mayor.
