A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday,
December 21, 1964 at 10:00 A.M. All members were present. Minutes of
the last regular meeting were read and approved. Vouchers were approved
and ordered paid to the various suppliers.
BUILDING DEPARTMENT• SUB -STANDARD DIVISION IN
Comes now Richard Liszewski, Supervisor of the Sub -Standard Division of
the Building Department, and advises the Board that Mr. Cook of 506
27th Street property had been requested to appear before the Board to
show cause why this property had not been brought up to standard.
However, Mr. Cook did not appear, nor did he contact the Sub -Standard
Division concerning this property.
It was the decision of the Board to continue this case for one week
and to again request that Mr. Cook appear before the Board on December
28, 1964.
Mr. Liszewski advised the Board that property owned by Mrs. Jennie
X Laline, located at 633 N. Walnut Street has now been vacated. He also
reported that Tt-can be repaired and that he has looked at the property.
The Board ruled that, since this property had not been brought up to
standard, Mr. Liszewski should post notices for condemnation.
With reference to property owned by Mr. and Mrs. Plummer, located at
620 E. Pennsylvania Avenue, Mrs. Charles Plummer reported to Mr. Liszewski
that they were buying this property under land contract and that there
were many more repairs that had to be made thank they expected when they
contracted for the property.
Mrs. Plummer advised Mr. Liszewski that she intended to attempt to get
their payments lowered from the present owner of the property and, if
this could not be accomplished", they could not afford to bring the
property up to standard.
Mr. Liszewski advised Mrs. Plummer to contact him by January 8, 1964 to
show what had been accomplished by that date.
After hearing Mr. Liszewski, the Board continued this case until January
11, 1964 at which ti:.e Mr. Liszewski will report what progress had been
made.
APPROVAL OF SNOW ROUTES
Pursuant to authority granted to the Board by Ordinance No. 4714-64, the
Board of Public Safety now, by regulation, designates the -streets itemized
on the Schedule filed herewith on this date and approved by the Board
of Public Safety as Snow Routes and" further orders that said streets
are to be designated as Snow Routes by suitable signs and markers.
POLICE DEPARTIVENT ( PRCUOTIONS )
Following the recommendation of Police Chief Hampton, the following
promotions were approved by the Board, effective January 1, 1965:
Richard Albright, from Cpl. to Sgt.
Edmund Niespodziany, from Cpl. to Sgt.
Raymond Pierson, from Cp1, to Sgt.
Russell Ryker, from Patrolman to Det. Sgt.
POLICE DEPARTENT ( APPLICATION )
An application for the Police Department from Henry Frederick August
Meier, II was accepted and ordered placed on file.
SPECIAL POLICE BOND ( SHIED )
A renewal of a Special Police Band for James Shields was approved and
ordered placed on file.
FIC ENGINEER INSTAL TIONS TRAFFIC SIG S
Following the recommendation of Clem Hazinski, Traffic Engineer, the
following installations were approved:
Changed 2 Hour signs to 1 Hour at 706 S. Lafayette
30 Minute Time"Limit signs in front of 1801 Linden Ave.
COTA.'LAINT • VENDORS PARKIN W. BRONSON ST
Mrs. Paulus who operates a canteen, appeared before the Board to attempt
to get relief from a parking problem at 222 W. Bronson Street.
Mrs. Paulus advised the Board that she had been parking in front of
this address for over 20 years in order to serve coffee and light
refreshments to office workers in this area and that her competitor,
Maroni Bros. Catering Service who operate a large truck had been parking
their vehicle in the space that she has been using daily during the
week from approximately-7:00 A.M. to noon.
Captain Bussert also appeared before the Board and advised the Board
that because of a truck dock across the street from the Monroe Street
address of 222, there is a severe traffic problem because of the truck
dock and the parked canteen cars. He requested that traffic signs be
installed so that the Police can enforce the No Parking regulation so
that through vehicular traffic can proceed on Monroe Street.
After hearing all Who wished to be heard, it was the decision of the
Board to take this problem under advisement in an attempt to give
relief to those concerned.
PEXITIMS: STREET -LIGHTS
A Petition for a street light in the 300 block of Wakewa to relieve
the very dark condition of this street was submitted to the Board
by Councilman John L. Hunter, Jr.
The Petition was referred to the Electrical Department for investigation
and recommendation.
Al Nall also petitioned for a street light at Fairfax and Miami. This
request was submitted by Mr. Taylor, City Engineer.
This request was also referred to the Electrical Department for invest-i-
gation and recommendation.
STREET LIGHT OUTAA E REPORTS
Street Light Outage Reports were accepted and ordered placed on file.
There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting
was adjourned at 10.55 A.M,
