A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday,
November 2, 1964 at 10:00 A.M. All members were present. Minutes
of the last regular meeting were read and approved. Vouchers were
approved and ordered paid to the various suppliers.
OPENING AND AWARDING OF BIDS• POLICE DEPARn ENT (1 SEDAN
The time now be after 10:00 A.M. it was so announced and sealed
bids for one four door sedan for use of the Police Department were
opened and read aloud. Proofs of Publication from the South Bend
Tribune with affidavit signed by Robert DeLong and the Tri-County
News with affidavit signed by Alfred W, Snyder II were found
sufficient.
The following bids were received:

It appearing that the bid of Nye -Fulton Motor Co., Inc. is the lowest
and best bid, it is so awarded subject to checking of specifications
and the budget.
TRAFFIC ENGINEER TRAFFIC INSTALLATIONS
Following the recommendation of the Traffic Engineer, the following
installations were approved:
2 Hour Time Limit signs installed to cover 2024 and 2018 Western
Stop Sign installed on southwest corner of intersecting alley
behind 738 S. Michigan Street.
TRAFFIC ENGINEER: BARRICADE SOUTH SIDE OF LASALLE PARK
Clem Hazinski, Traffic Engineer, submitted a letter from Ralph Newman,
Park Department Superintendent, advising that at the request of citizens
of the community of LaSalle Park the entire south side of LaSalle
Park is now being barricaded restricting all automobile traffic through
the park.
The following streets and alleys will dead end at the park and, it was
the thought of Mr. Newman ---that the Traffic Engineer should erect the
Proper signs:
Kentucky Street
Iowa Street
:Cake Street
Alley between Iowa and Lake Streets
Following the recommendation of Clem Haznski, the Board.approved the
erection of the proper signs to indicate the dead end streets.
ELECTRICAL DEPARRENT INSTALLATIO ST STANIS LA,TJS C CH
Following the recommendation of Eugene Radecki., Electrical. Department
Superintendent, the following installation was approved:
1 - 4000 lumen street light in the middle of the block at 415 N.
Brookfield Street on Pole J 233-835. This is installed at the
entrance of St. Stanislaud Roman Catholic Church as the result of
a Petition from residents of the area submitted by Councilman
Szymkowiak.
ELECTRICAL DEPARTMENT - REQUESTS FOR STREET LIGHTS
The following requests for street lights were referred to the Electrical.
Department for investigation and recommendation;
1. Al Nall and Associates, Inc. request street lights in
their new city sub -divisions called Fairfax Estates and Ireland
Heights.
2. A letter from Mrs. Robert Milovich addressed to Mayor Allen
was submitted to the Board by Mayor Allen. Mrs. Milovich who
resides at 3422 VVIhitcome Avenue requests a street light on
tthitcomb Avenue between Jennings and Klinger Streets.
BUILDING DEPARTMENT: ATTEND 17ETING
Permission was granted Forrest Iffest,.Building Commissioner to -'attend
the general:`' sessions of the Urban Land Institute at Denver, Colorado
on November 4th to 6th, 1964.
Mr. Test advised the Board that sufficient funds are available to cover
costs of this trip.
SUB -STANDARD DIVISION
Comes.naw John Grabarz and requests permission to hold the bids for
demolition of property located at 513 S. Bendix Drive pending checking
of budget for this demolition.
Permission granted.
John Grabarz requested permission to advertise for bids for demolition
of property located at 506 27th Street, owned by Mr. Cook. Mr. Grabarz
advised the-Board:that Mr. Cook had been contacted to show cause why
property had not that
up to standard but had failed to appear
as requested.
FIRE DEPARTMENTS PRQMOTIONS
Following the recommendation of the Fire Chief, the following promotions
were approved:
Captain Dale Fortin to Battalion Chief
Lt. Jack Bukowski to Captain
Private Frank Tor& to Lieutenant
The promotions are effective November 17 1964.

APPLICATIONS -FIRE DEPARTMENT
An application from Richard Lee Swigart for the Fire Department was
accepted and ordered placed on file.
An application from Ervin Joseph Machowiak for the Fire Department
was accepted and ordered placed on file.
SPECIAL POLICE CMISSION
A renewal of Commission for Special Police for Walter W. Jenczewski
was approved by the Board and ordered placed on file.
APPLICATION: POLICE AUXILIARY SCHOOL PATROL
An application for Police Auxiliary School Patrol from Dolores Shirley
Watkins was accepted and ordered placed on file.
STREET LIGHT OUTAGE REPORTS
Street Light Outage Reports were accepted and ordered placed on file.
BUILDING DEPARTMENT: TRANSFER OF FUNDS
Comes now Forrest R. West, Building Comnissioner, and requests that
funds be transferred from the General Fund to the Building Demolitign
Repair and Contingency Fund.
The request was approved and referred to the City Controller and the
legal department for preparation of an Ordinance.
There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting
was adjourned at 10:45 A.M.
