DuComb and Lloyd S, Taylor were present. Minutes of the last regular meeting were read and approved. Vouchers were approved and ordered paid to the various suppliers, OPENING OF BIDS: FIRE DEPARTMENT ( SEDANS AND PICK-UP TRUCK The time now being after 10:00 A.I. it was so announced and sealed bids for two sedans and one 2 ton pick-up truck were opened and read aloud, Proofs of Publication from .the South Bend Tribune with affidavit signed by Robert DeLong and the Tri-County News with affidavit signed by -Alfred..Snyder; :IZ were found sufficient. Dale Fortin and Lieutenant Carl Lederer to attend the Indiana State Fire School at Purdue University, Lafayette, Indiana on September 17 through September 19, 1964. APPLICMCN FIRE DEPARTWXT An application for the Fire Department from Thaddeus Stanley Cichos, Jr. was accepted and ordered placed on file. BUILM& DEPARTMENT - SUB -STANDARD D,1�it ISIOA? Comes now Mr. J. M..Guthrie and others to pietition. the Board-to.take some action on property located at 313 N. Scott Street, owned by -David Oberg. The petitioners state that this property has been vacant for a period of five years and has beccme-a nuisance by being a playground for children. The petitioners, further request that this property be rehabilitated or razed. Mr. Grabarz of the Sub -Standard Division of the Building Department appeared before the Board and advised the Board that the owner of the property is in Service, that the dwelling had been boarded up two years ago. On August 12, 1964, the owner had been notified by Mr. Grabarz to bring property up to standard and that unless the Sub -Standard. Division is notified and see corrections being made on. September 14, 1964 the Sub -Standard Division will appear before the Board and request permission to advertise for bids for demolition. Costs will be placed as.a lien against the property. As a result of this letter, Mr. Obert wrote to the Sub -Standard Division and requested a postponement for advertising until he has had sufficient time to receive an answer to a letter written on the demolition of the house. The owner further states that he has had information that a contractor will possibly tear the house down at no cost to the owner. Because of information contained in the Petition submitted, that this dwelling had been condemned by the Fire Department approximately two years ago, the I Board requested Mr. Grabarz to submit a report from the Fire Department as to the present condition. A progress report on property owned by Mr. and Mrs. Blad, located at 715 S. Meade Street by Mr. Grabarz revealed that a report on possible rehabilitation of this propertyv.as "not. received by the Sub -Standard. Division of the Building Department, either by the owners of Mr. Ettl, attorney representing them. In view of this situation, Mr. Grabarz was authorized to advertise for demolition. TRAFFIC ENGINEER: INSTALLATIONS ( TRAFFIC SIGNS ) Following the recommendation of the Traffic Engineer, the following installations were approved: Yield signs installed -on -Elmer Street, both sides, at Pershing St. Stop signs installed on Catalpa Street, southeast corner, at Sample Street. No Parking sign installed on west side of Webster Street, just north of Sample Street. No Parking Passenger Loading Zone sign on east side of 800 S. Twyyckenham Drive No Parking 7 A.M. to 9 A.M, on west side of 800 block of S. Twyckenham Drive. Semi -actuated traffic signals installed at Mishawaka Avenue & Greenlawn - put in operation 9:30 A.M. on Sept. 4, 1964. Sealed bids will be opened on October 5, 19640 PETITION: JWFIC SIGN - C ENGINEER A Petition from Mr, and Mrs, Samuel Martin and others, residents of Wooderest Drive and Twyckenham Drive was submitted to the Board requesting toe installation of traffic sign warning motorists to watch for children, Mr. Samuel Martin, petitioner, was present at meeting. The Petition was referred to the Traffic Engineer for investigation and recommendation. PETITIONS:_ ELECTRICAL DEPARTUHT ( STREET LIGHTS) The.following Petitions for Street -.Lights were -referred to the Electrical Department for investigation and recommendation, 1. Petition from Mr. Zimbro, 510 E. Keaseyy Street for street lights on Nitzel Court between Fellows and Rush Streets and Keasey and Wenger Streets. 2. Petition from residents of N. College Street for a street light on North College between. Marquette and Hamilton. 3. Petition from residents of Dubail and Marietta Streets for a street light on Dubail between High Street and Marietta. STREET lam, QT OUTAGE REPORTS Street Light Outage Reports were accepted and ordered placed on file. CERTIFICATE OF INSURANCE ( FREEMAN-SPICER CO,,, INC ) A Certificate of Insurance for Freeman -Spicer Co., Inc. for public liability and property damage for installation of stem line. This request was made by Ideal Consolidated, Inc. and approved. Minutes concerning the Engineer's Report and request of Ideal Consolidated and terms of installation are contained in Minutes of Board of Public Works k Safety, August 3, August 10, 1964. PERMISSION TO ADVERTISE: POLICE DEPARTM KT _( 10 SEDANS ) Permission was granted the Police Department to advertise for 10 Four Door Sedans for use as police cars. Bids will be opened and annsidered at the meeting of October 5, 1964.
