A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday,
August.31, 1964 at 10:0 A.M. All members were present. Minutes of
the last regular meeting were read and approved. Vouchers were approved
and ordered paid to the various suppliers.

Canoes now Forrest R. West, Building Commissioner,,and requests the
Board's permission to move a house from a tempox�t* locatioh. new
Olive Street and. Lincoln Way West to 1202 N. Elmer Street,
Mr. West submitted copies of letters sent as notification to residents
in the area which were signed by the residents and will be placed on
file in the Building Department,
Mr. West also advised the Board that the house meets the qualificatimns
of the Building Code and all other Codes involved, It is owned by Mr,
George Bernath and will be moved by Irv. Worden.
Mrs. Theresa Elias, 1206 N. Elmer Street and Mr. and Mrs. John, Antowick
of 1210 N. Elmer Street and Mr. T. N. Taylor, 1226 N. Elmer Street
appeared to remonstrate the move.
The remonstrators requested that the move be denied on the grounds
that the house was too large for the lot, that it is a two start'
structure and would not look well in the neighborhood which contains
many one story dwellings and also that, if the house is rented, the
tenants may ge undesirable. -
Mr. West assured the Board that the house is not too large for the
lot in accordance with Code regulations. Mr. Bernath assured the
Board that the house will be kept in good condition and be a credit
to the neighborhood.
After hearing all who wished to be heard, the Board advised the
remonstrators that the Board had no authority to deny the rights of
the owner insofar as his choice of tenants might be and, further,
that if the house is up to Code Standards the Board cannot deny the
move.
Therefore, the application of George Bernath to remove the house, a
two story dwelling from the temporary location at Olive and Lincoln
Way West to 1202 N. Elmer Street subject':i3 the petitioner getting
the necessary clearances from the Park Board and the utility ecmpanies
for said move, and subject to meeting Code requirements is now approved.
Comes now Otto Pozsgay with reference to property ow.n0d by him at
1302 Chapin Street as requested by the Board to show cause why
the structure on this property should not be demolished, inasmuch as
the Department of Redevelopment may not seek to acquire this property
for several years.
Mr. Pozsgay requested additional time in order to sell property or
bring up to standard.

than by selling to Redevelopment or"having structure demolished by

Mr, Pozsgay was advised by Mr, Grabarz that the original extensian
on this property was granted in January of 1962,
Councilman Allen and Councilman Smith, present at the meeting, urged
that some action be taken on this pxcperty, Mrs. Allen also suggested
that the property might be cleaned up and boarded up and left standing.
Mr. DuComb informed those present that he cannot waive a sub -standard
Ordinance and thus set a�precedent.
After hearing all who wished to be heard 'the Board ruled that Mr,
Pozsgay be given until September 28, 1964 ^to present a contract to
the'Board showing that he will bring the property up to Code. If
this is not done, advertisements will be placed for demolishion Ss
of this date.

It appearing that the bid -of Richard Weaver is the lowest bid received
the bid is so awarded to Richard Weaver.

Following the recommendation of the Traffic Engineer, the following
installations were approved:
No Parking This Side signs installed on south side of 2700 block of
East Colfax Avenue,
2 Hour time limit signs installed on north side of 300 W. Indiana Avenue,
Yield signs on Sunryside Avenue at East Wayne Street north and south
have been replaced with Stop signs,
Change time limit 100 block E. Dubail north side from 2 hour to 30
minute time limit zone 500 N. Allen, 1st i block north of Lincoln
Way West, east side,
Install No Parking 7 a.m.- 9 a.m. west side of Twyckenham in 800 Block,
south,
Install Yield signs on Elmer at Pershing.
4-Way Stop removed at Marietta and Sample. Rarietta north bound stops
for Sample.
TRAFFIC ENGINEER - INSTALLATIPH
As a result of a Petition filed with the Board requesting ":Watch For
Children!' signs in 700 block of N. Allen, in alley next to 726 N. Allen
these signs have now bee-twtalled-and--the Board so approves.
APPOINT: POLICE DEPAR'.17 ENT ( L,�_ AWS II )
Effective September 1.,11964, Louis guj" ki is .appointed to the Police
Department having satisfactori7.y passed a11. requirements oaf the city
Doctor and the Pension Doctor and on August 27, 1964 he appeared
before the Trustees of the Pension Fund and satisfactorily passed
,the oral interview. The applicant's application has previously
been filed with the Board. Said applicant is now'approved as a
member of the Police Department by this Board.

the recommendation of Ponce_ Chief Hampton, Captain Kite s request
for retirement as of September 5, 1964 is hereby accepted,
At the request of Eugene Radecki Electrical Department Superintendent,
Petitions for street lights will Pbe held up until September 21, 1964,
Mr. Radecki will be on vacation to this date.
Following the commendation of Eugene Radecki, Superintendent of the
Electrical Department, the following Petitions for street lights
have been approved:
1. Petition of Councilman Allen for street light in -the muddle of the
block of Kenmore Street - 100 block.
2. Petition firm Councilman Szymkowiak and residents of the areas -for
street light - 4000 lumen = center of 3015 block of Prast Blvd,
3. Petition from Councilman Szymkoyvi,ak and residents of the areas
for street light at east side corner of alley of property 2404
Frederickson Street. Mr. Radecki advised the Board that this area does
not benefit from the street light at the corner. A 4000 lumen
light at the above address will benefit the area,
4. Petition from residents of Tuxedo Drive for light. Street light
installed between 2.26 and 222 Tuxedo Drive.

An application for the Police Department from Richard R. Strozewski
was accepted and ordered placed on file.
CONTINUATION CERTIFICATE• SPECIAL POLICE
A Continuation Certificate for Bond of Special Police Allie Ahmed Jodo,
Jr. Was approved and ordered placed on. file.
STREET LIGHT OUTAGE REPORTS -
Street Light Outage Reports were accepted and ordered placed on file.
