A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday, August
17, 1964 at 10:00 A.M. All members were present. Minutes of the last regular
meeting were read and approved. Vouchers were approved and ordered paid
to the various suppliers.
ELECTRICAL DEPARTMENT: INSTALLATI,ON ( STREET LIGHT )
Following the recommendation of the Electrical Department Superintendent,
the following installation was approved:
1 - 6000 Lumen Street Light at corner of Louise & Ruskin -Streets.
PETITIONS., STREET ,LIGMS
The following Petitions for street light installations were referred to
the Electrical Department for investigation and recommendation:
1. Light on South Kenmore between Washington and Jefferson, petitioned
by Councilman Janet Allen.
2. Light on pole between 226 and 222.Tuxedo Drive, petitioned by residents
on Tuxedo Drive.
3. Petition for Street Light at 525 N. Scott Street, requested by residents
of N. Scott Street.
BUILDING DEPARTMENT - SUB -STANDARD DIVISION ( HEARINGS )
Mr. John Grabarz, Supervisor of the Sub -Standard Division of the Building
Department advised the Board that Mr. Roland Grant, owner of property
located at 1629 Linden Avenue had failed to secure a root beer stand in
the rear of his property, as ordered. Mr. Grabarz advised the Board that
Mr. Grant had boarded the stand but that the boards had been removed
almost immediately by persons unknown and that, in his opinion, it would
be impossible to secure the stand permanently. Mr. Grabarz recommended
its removal.
The Board addressed a letter to Mr. Grant requesting him to contact the
President of the Board of Public Works & Safety,: Mr. DuComb, with his
reasons as to why he has an actual need for this stand. If no need can
be shown, the stand will be removed in the near future.
Mr. Grant was requested to carry out this request prior to the meeting of
August 24, 1964.
Mr. Grabarz reported to the Board that Earl and Vera Brown, owners of
property located at 1517 W. Jefferson had failed to appear before the
Board as ordered.
The Board directed Mr. Grabarz to advertise for bids for demolition of
the property.
With reference to property owned by Mr. Frank Cook located at 506 S.
27th Street, Mr. Grabarz reported that Mr. Cook had failed to appear
before the Board, as ordered.
The Board directed that the property be vacated and further directed
Mr. Grabarz to ppoceed with condemnation.
With reference to property owned by Mrs. Dorothy Blad, located at 715
S. Meade Street, Mr. Grabarz advised the Board that Mrs. Blad had
failed to appear, as requested.
Hearing continued for one week to allow additional time for such appearance.
Mrs. Janet Allen, Councilman, requested some action to remove or repair
the_;; -property owned by Mr. Otto Pozsgay, located at 1302 Chapin Street.
Since this property may be eventually removed by the Urban Redevelopment
Department during their Industrial Expansion Project, the Board addressed
a letter to the Urban Redevelopment Department, requesting additional
information and their intention on this property and whether this will
be accomplished in the near future. The owner feels that there is some
value to this property which would be destroyed by the City if it were
ordered demolished prior to negotiations with the Urban Redevelopment
Department.
BUILDING DEPARTMENT (-REPORT )
The Building Department submitted a Report for the month of July, 1964
which was accepted and ordered placed on file.
FIRE DEPARTMENT - ATTEND CONVENTION ( CHIEF MCHENRY )
Permission was granted to Fire Chief McHenry to attend the Fire Chief's
Convention in Indianapolis on August 21, 22 and 23rd, 1964.
STREET LIGHT OUTAGE REPORTS
Street Light Outage Reports were accepted and ordered placed on file.
There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting
was adjourned at 11:30 A.M.
