July 27, 1964
A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday, July
27, 1964 at 10:00 A.M. All members were present. Minutes of the last
regular meeting were read and approved. No vouchers were approved for
payment.
BUILDING DEPARTMENT: HOUSE MOVE ( TON MEADE STREET )
Comes now Forrest West, Building Commissioner, and advises the Board
that George Bernath, owner of a house now located on the N.W. corner
of Lincoln Way West wishes to move said house to the 1100 block of No.
Meade Street.
Mr. West informed the Board that the house is in compliance with all the
Building Codes and City Ordinances.
Remonstrators appeared before the Board and were heard.
Mr. and Mrs. Crose, 1148 N. Meade Street claim the house move would be
a nuisance, dangerous, and that it would bring undesirables and they
do not wish their trees to be cut down.
Mr. DuComb advised them that this Board has no authority over the tree
situation.
Thad Kolassa, 1141 N. Fremont feels that rental property is not good
for this area.
Mr. DuComb explained that if the move is in compliance with all Ordinances
that he can see no reason why the move should not be approved.
Mrs. Crose asked for additional time to check to see if there are any
illegalities.
Case continued by the Board. However, the remonstrators were advised that
a decision will be made on Monday, August 3, 1964. The Board further
requested Mr. Bernath.to bring in pictures of other homes he has moved
to try and satisfy the property owners of North Meade Street as to the
condition of these properties.
A Petition filed with the Board by remonstrators to the above move was
accepted and ordered placed on file.
BUILDING DEPARTMENT: SUB -STANDARD DIVISION ( HEARINGS)
Comes now John Grabarz with reference to property owned by Mrs. Leta
Hibbitt, located at 1501 W. Orange Street.
Mr. Grabarz submitted copy of a letter from Daniel Morgan, attorney for
Mrs. Hibbitt, advising that Mrs. Hibbitt will pay for demolition of the
structure but not until September 5, 1964 because it would be in violation
of tenants lease.
It was therefore agreed that the City will advertise for bids for demolition
10-days prior to September 5, 1964. Letter from Mr. Morgan accepted and
ordered placed on file.
OPENING BIDS FOR DEMOLITION( S. CHICAGO STREET )
The following bids for demolition for property located at 210 S. Chicago
Street were opened and read and accepted:

It appearing that the bid of A & J Demolition Company is the lowedt
and best bid, it is now so awarded to:
A & J Demolition Company
SUB -STANDARD DIVISION: PERMISSION TO ADVERTISE FOR DEMOLITION BIDS
With reference to property located at 1609 Franklin Street, owned by
Reverend Thompson, Mr. DuComb advised Mr. Grabarz to contact Reverend
Thompson and.advise him that the City will advertise for bids for
demolition of this property the week of August 3, 1964.
PERMISSION TO ATTEND CONFERENCE: BUILDING DEPARTMENT & SUB -STANDARD
Permission was granted to all Inspectors of the Building Department
and Sub -Standard Division to attend the INdiana Inspectors' Association
Conference on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, August 3, 4 and 5, 1961
at Randall's Inn, subject to the offices of these departments being
manned and open.
TRAFFIC ENGINEER: TRAFFIC SIGN
Following the recommendation of Clem Hazinski, Traffic Engineer, the
following installation was approved:
Bus Stop installed in front of Plaza Apartments at 628 Western
Avenue.
STREET LIGHT INSTALLATIONS: ELECTRICAL DEPARTMENT
Following the recommendation of Eugene Radecki, Electrical Department
Superintendent, the folloving installations were approved:
6000 lumen light at Olive Street and Prast Blvd.
4000 lumen light at the alley of the 900 block of N. Elmer Street
4000 lumen light at the alley of 2319 Smith Street.
RULING ON STREET LIGHT INSTAISATTIONS
By order of the Board, there will be no further street light instllations
for a while as the fund is depleted.
PETITION: STREET LIGHT INSTALLATIOR ( HUNTLEY COURT - COUNCILMAN SMITH
A letter from Councilman Edwin T. Smith, Fifth District, requested the
installation of a street light in the Huntly Court - Thornhill Drive
area. Councilman Smith explained that this is a new area and that he
has had several requests from property owners for a street light installa-
tion.
Because of the Ruling on the installation of street lights explained
above, the Petition was denied.
STREET FIGHT OUTAGE REPORTS
Street Light Outage Reports were accepted and ordered placed on file.
POLICE DEPARTMENT REPORT
A Report from the Police Department for the month of June, 1954 was
submitted to the Board, accepted and ordered placed on file.
There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting
was adjourned at 11:15 A.M.
