A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday,
November 18, 1963 at 10:00 A.M. All members were present. Minutes
of the last regular meeting and the special meeting were read and
approved. Vouchers were approved for the various suppliers.
BUILDING DEPARTMENT ( HOUSE MOVE ) HEARING
Cbmes now Louis Smogor, Building Commissioner, and requests permission
from the Board to grant request of Lewis Mitschelen to move a house
owner by George Bernath from 1611 S. Main Street to 1708 S. William
Street.
Upon questions from the Board, Mr. Smogor stated that house to be moved
had been inspected and found to be up to_standard according to City
Ordinance and Building Codes; that all regulations had been conformed
with.
Mr. Smogor further stated that notice requesting permit to be issued
to move said house had been sent to interested parties in the neighbor-
hood advising them of time and place of hearing.
Appearing before the Board to remonstrate the proposed house move
were residents of the area. Mrs. Louis S. Zawierucha appeared as
spokesman for the remonstrators and stated that the neighbors did not
want this house moved to the location on S. William Street.
After hearing all who wished to be heard, the Board continued the
hearing for one week in order to allow sufficient time for Mr. Smogor
to meet with the remonstrators and Mr. Mitschelen and to explain
what improvements will be made to the house after it is movedo and
to explain the requirements necessary for the house move.
BUILDING DEPARTMENT ( COMMERCIAL BUILDING MOVE )
Mr. Louis Smogor, Building Commissioner, requested permission to issue
a permit to move a building 30 ft. x 68 ft. x 17 ft. high from 1021
Louise Street to 2020 W. Sample Street. The owner of the property is
Mr. D. W. Whiteford, and the mover is Mr. 'Irvin Worden.
Permission granted.
PETITION; ELECTRICAL DEPARTMENT ( STREET LIGHT - LAURENCE ST.)

Following the recommendation of Nicholas Horvath, Electrical Department
Superintendent, the Board approved the installation- of 1 - 4000 lumen
street light at 1108 Ni Laurence Street.
REQUESTS: STREET LIGHT INSTALLATIONS- ELECTRICAL DEPARRMENT
A Petition from Jack Zimbro and others residing on Keaseu and Wenger
Streets for installation of a street light in the alley between the 500
block of Keasey and Wenger because of loitering in the alley, parking,
etc., was referred to Nicholas Horvath, Electrical Department Super-
intendent for investigation and recommendation.
A request from Crest Manor Development Corporation for the installation
of street lights at the following locations was referred to the Electrical
Department for investigation and recommendation:
1. At the end of Roelke Drive on east end of Cul-de-sac.
2. At the blister on Cambridge Drive, 328 feet east of center line
of intersection of Kindig Drive and Cambridge Drive.
3. At intersection of Mmgrave Court and Cambridge Drive.

TRAFFIC ENGINEER TRAFFIC SIGN INSTALLATION
Following the recommendation of Clem Hazinski, Traffic Engineer, the
following installations were approved:
1. 2 Hour signs installed on west side of 200 block of South Notre
Dame Avenue alongside 828 E. Jefferson Blvd.
2. No Parking signs installed on east side of St. Peter Streetp
400 block north at the ends of the yellow zones extending north and
south of St. Joseph Hospital entrance.
WEIGHTS & MEASURES MONTHLY REPORT_
A report for the month of October, 1963 from the Department of Weights
& Measures was accepted and ordered placed on file.
STREET LIGHT OUTAGE REPORTS
Street Light Outage Reports were accepted and ordered placed on file.
HEALTH DEPARTMENT REPRESENTATIVE
Mr. Stephen Molnar of the St. Joseph County Health Department appeared
at
BUILDING DEPARTMENT: ELECTRICAL INSPECTORS MEETING )
Mr. Louis Smogor, Building Commissioner, requested permission to send
a representative to Indianapolis on November 30, 1963 to attend the
International Association of Electrical Inspectors meeting.
Permission granted.
TRAFFIC ENGINEER ( STATE HIGHWAY MEETING
Mr. Clem Hazinski, Traffic Engineer, requested permission to attend a
meeting with the State Highway Commission in Indianapolis on November
.21 and November 22, 1963 prlvided a mutually convenient schedule can
be arranged.
Permission granted.
There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting
was adjourned at 10:50 A.M.
