A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Tuesday,
November 12, 1963 at 10:00 A.M. All members were present. Minutes
of the last regular meeting were read and approved. Vouchers were
approved and ordered paid to the various suppliers.
OPENING OF BIDS: POLICE DEPARTMENT_ THREE WHEEL MOTORCYCLES L
The time now being after 10:00 A.M. it was so announced and bids
for four three -wheel motorcycles were opened and read aloud. Proofs
of P'Ubl :catioo"frog=The South Bend Tribune and The Record were found
sufficient.

Since this was the only bid received, a decision will not be made
until }prices and allowances are checked. Bid must also meet all
specifications.
ELECTRICAL DEPARTMENT ( INSTALLATIONS_)
Following the recommendation of the Electrical Department, the following
installations were approved:
1 - 4000 lumen street light at 716 E. LaSalle Ave.
1 - 4000 lumen street light at 111 S. Notre Dame Ave.
REJECTION
Following the recommendation of the Electrical Department, the following
request --was rejected:
Street Lights in the alley of 1200 Block Thomas Street and the 700 Block
Of E. LaSalle Ave.
PETITION: ELECTRICAL DEPARTMENT ( STREET LIGHT )
A Petition from residents of the N. Lawrence Street area for a street
light at 1108 N. Lawrence Street was referred to the Electrical Department
for investigation and recommendation.
STREET LIGHT OUTAGE REPORTS
Street Light Outage Reports were accepted and ordered placed on file.
POLICE DEPARTMENT: RETIREMENT-INSP_._RRHUNT )_
At the request of Inspector Russell L. Hunt of the Police Department,
the Board accepted his request for retirement, effective December 1,
1963.
The Board hereby goes on record to congratulate Inspector Hunt for
his many years of loyal service to the City and to the Police Department
and wish him well.
APPLICATION: POLICE DEPARTMENT
An application for the Police Department from David John Drajer was
accepted and ordered placed on file.
SPECIAL POLICE BONDS LPYCLIK AND KONYA - TORRINGTON
The Board approved Special'_Police Bonds for Joseph Pyclik and Andrew
S. Konya, employed as Special Police by Torrington Company, and ordered
same placed on file.
REQUEST: MUSCULAR DYSTROPHY FUND DRIVE USE OF FIRE STATIONS
The Board granted a request from the Muscular Dystrophy Association
to use various Fire Stations as collection points for the kits the
M.S. marchers turn in. The Board also approved the request to use
fire department personnel who have volunteered to distribute canisters
through -out the city and will pick up the canisters around December 1.
The Board further approved the use of a police officer to go to the
V.F.W. Home on Lincolnway at 11:00 P.M. on November 129 1963 to act as
escort when the funds collected on this day which is the day of the
Fund Drive are taken to the bank for deposit.
BUILDING DEPARTMENT MONTHLY_ REPORT_)
A Report for the month -:of October, 1963 was accepted from the Building
Department and ordered placed on file.
SUB -STANDARD_ DIVISION ( HEARINGS
With reference to property located at 302 S. Liberty Street, a
letter from George Sands, attorney, representing Mr. Washington, the
owner, to the Board requested a continuance on this hearing until
January 7, 1964 in order to give Mr. Washington time to make all
necessary repairs, as ordered.
Continuance granted until January 7, 1964.
With reference to property located at 416 S. Meade Street, owned by
Mr. William Cinal, Mr. Grabarz appeared before the Board to advise the
Board that repair orders issued almost one year ago have not been
completed.
Mr. Cinal also appeared and informed the Board that because of the
serious illness of his father, he had not had sufficient time to make
the repairs. He requested additional time to complete the work.
After hearing Mr. Grabarz and Mr. Cinal, the Board ruled that a continuance
be granted until December 23, 1963.
APPLICATION: FIRE DEPARTMENT
An application for the Fire Department from Leo Joseph Ryback, Jr. was
accepted and ordered placed on file.
There being no further business to come before the Boardx the meeting
was adjourned at 10:45 A.M.
