A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday,,
November 4, 1963 at 10:00 A.M. All members were present. Minutes
of the last regular meeting were read and approved.. Vouchers were
approved and ordered paid to the various suppliers.
PETITION:. POLICE DEPARTMENT PENSION FUND LONGEVITY _
A Petition signed by Andrew F. Orban and Edward L. Bergan,.with reference
to the longevity pay for.retired police officers was submitted to the
Board.
The:.,Peti,tion will. be ;8xamined and proper action will be taken after
examination.
ELECTRICAL DEPARTMENT INSTALLATIONS
Following the recommendation of Nicholas Horvath, Electrical Department
Superintendent, the following installationsof street lights were
approved:
1 - 4000 lumen street light at 1208 Van Buren St.
7 - 4000 lumen street lights in the "Highland Estates" lst and 2nd
Sections (Hartman Builders, Inc.)
1 - 4000 lumen street light in the 2000 block College Street.
PETITIONS: STREET LIGHTS '
The following Petitions requesting street light installations were
referred to the Electrical Department for investigation and recommendation:
1 - Petition from Ed Levin and others for a street light on East LaSalle
Avenue between E. St. Louis and E. St. Peter Street.
2. - Petition from E. LaSalle Avenue area for two street': ghts in a
paved alley from Scott Street to Cushing between Oak and LaSalle Ave.
TRAFFIC ENGINEER TRAFFIC SIGNSS)
Following the recommendation of Clem Hazinski, Traffic Engineer, the
following in,*,tallations were approved:
Stop Signs installed on 30thyStreet, both sides, at Hastings Street,
making a 4-way stop intersection.

2 Hour Time Limit signs installed to cover 1416 and 1419 Mishawaka Avenue.
STREET LIGHT OUTAGE REPORTS
Street Light Outage Reports were accepted and ordered placed on file.
REQUEST: USE OF FIRE STATIONS FOR X-RAY_j T.B_LEAGUE__I_•
The St. Joseph County Tuberculosis League submitted a written request to
use the following Fire Stations in connection with X-Ray operations
in January, 1964. Because of weather conditions the League feels that
to operate effectively the busses used in connection with the X-Ray
program should be placed with some protection for the workers and people
who often stand in line.
The Board approved the use of the following Fire Stations, provided
the League does not interfere with the regular duties of the firemen:
Thursday, January 9 Fire Station, 1000 lincoln Way East
Monday, January 13 Fire Station, 1210 Thomas Street
Tuesday, January 14 Fi-r-e--Station, 4302 Western Ave.
Wednesday, January 15- Fire Station, 202 E. Mayne Street
Thursday, January 16 Fire Station, 202 E. Mayne Street
HEALTH DEPARTMENT REPRESENTATIVE
Stephen Molnar, representing the Health Department, was present at
the meeting.
BUILDING DEPARTMENT - SUB -STANDARD DIVISION_( HEARINGS
Comes now Mr. Anderson Jones, owner of property located at 134 N.
Olive Street and John Grabarz, Director of the Sub -Standard Division
of the Building Department, and advises the Board that the house
at the Olive street address which has been condemned and which
condemnation had been continued to allow time for Mr. Jones to
repair the structize has not been repaired as ordered. Said repair
was to have been completed by October 28, 1963.
Mr. Jones advises the Board that he had hired a carpenter and that
some of the work has been completed. Mr. Jones requested additional
time to allow him to have the work finished.
After hearing Mr. Jones, the Board ruled that Mr. Jones should confer
with Mr. Grabarz who will assist him in giving assistance and advice
as to how best to have this work completed.
This case was continued until December 9, 1963 at which time the work
must be completed.
The Board further ruled that debris in the yard at the Olive Street
address shall be cleaned up by November 6, 1963.
This ruling was agreeable to Mr. Jones.
There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting
was adjourned at 10:25 A.M.
