A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday,
October 21, 1963 at 10:00 A.M. All members were present. Minutes
of the last regular meeting and the special meeting were read and
approved. Vouchers were approved and ordered paid to the various
suppliers.
RETIRE_MENT POLICE DEPARTMENT_(LT. E. J. NOWAK
Lt. Edward J. Nowak of the Police Department requested the Board
to approve his service pension after twenty-two years and almost
ten months on the Police Force, to be effective November 1, 1963.
Lt. Nowak advised the'Board that he will end his vacation on October
17, 1963 and from then through October 31, 1963 will be on customary
two weeks terminal leave.
Request granted as requested.
ATTEND SAFETY COUNCIL LE. R. W. MILLER)
The Board granted permission to Sgt. Robert W. Miller, Traffic
Division of the Police Department to attend the National Safety
Council Congress in Chicago, Illinois from October 27, 1963 through
October 31, 1963.
Sgt. Miller has been appointed to the seven man subcommittee Advisory
Board to the National Safety Council on Uniform City Traffic Accident
Record and Statistics andas such a member will appear on several
panels on this subject during the Safety Congress.
ATTEND MEETING S K-9 POLICE OFFICERS-)
Permission was granted fo the following Police Officers to attend a
state' -meeting of K-9 Officers to be held in Muncie, Indiana on
October 22. 1963;

Officers"Switalski, Szuba, Lederer and Szwede.
Permission also granted to take along the K-9 cars to show these
attending the meeting how our cars are equipped.
The officers will leave at 5:00 A.M. on the 22nd and will have
21st and 22nd of October off.
PETITIONS. STREET LIGHT REQUESTS
The following Petitions requesting street light installations were
referred to Nicholas Horvath, Electrical Department Superintendent
for investigation and recommendation:
1. 300 Block of N. Francis Street between LaSalle and Madison Streets
2. Walnut Street back of Thomas Street - light in alley.
STREET LIGHT OUTAGE REPORTS
Street Light Outage Reports were accepted and ordered placed on file.
HEALTH DEPARTMENT REPRESENTATIVE
Stephen Molnar, representing the Health Department was in attendance
at the meeting.
APPLICATION: SPECIAL POLICE LKESTER
Application for renewal of Special Police Commission and Bond for Mr.
A. Kester was continued for one week.
