A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday,
August 19, 1963 at 10:00 A.M. All members were present. Minutes
of the last regular meeting were read and approved. Vouchers were
approved and ordered paid to the various suppliers.

Comes now John Grabarz, of the Sub -Standard Division, with Mrs. Graham,
owner of property located at 1125 Burns Avenue.
Mrs. Graham was allowed a continuance in this case to permit her to
investigate whether it is practical to repair property.
Comes now Mrs. Graham and informs the Board that she has not been able
to get sufficient funds to make the necessary repairs.
Mr. Howell also substantiated her claim that no money is available for
all the repairs necessary.
After hearing all who wished to be heard, it was the decision of the
Board to proceed with taking of bids and charge against the property.
Mr. Smith advised Mrs. Graham that the City will pay for the demoltion
and there will be a lien on the property.
With reference to property located at 1910 S. Grant Street, Mr. Grabarz
requested permission to have house demolished. He further advised the
Board that all parties of interest had been notified.
The Board ruled to proceed with demolition.
POLICE DEPARTMENT: ATTEND COURSE AT NORTHWESTERN U._( KNEPPER & BUSSERT).
Officer L. M. Bussert and Officer G. J. Knepper were granted permission
to attend an Accident Investigation Course at Northwestern University
from September 9 through September 27, 1963 inclusive.
Permission granted.
POLICE DEPARTMENT: RESIGNATION OFFICER SEACH
The Board accepted the resignation of Officer Jerald P. Seach, effective
August 22, 1963. Officer Seach is leaving to take employment with the
Unived S�ates Government. He has served on the Department since April
5, 1954.
FIRE_ DEPARTMENT: REPORT ONE UIPMEINL PUMP
Captain Leo Banacki, Captain Anthony Gadaca, Captain Carl B. Martz-, Jr.,
and Captain Ted Kanczuzewski, all mechanics with the Fire Department,
signed a written report which was submitted to the Board by the fire
Chief that they have examined an American Marsh Front Mount 500 G.P.M.
at 120#- Single Stage, South Bend Fire Department equipment and as it
remains now, is only good for salvage. Its present condition makes it
worth approximately $25.00. The Board orders this equipment sold$
REPORT: TRAFFIC ENGINEER (_RAILROAD GROSSING —OLIVE & SAMPLE )
A written report from Clem Hazinski, Traffic Engineer, was submitted
to the Board, as requested. The report points out that the railroad cross-
ing at the New York Central System tracks at Olive and Sample Street
is rough and hazardous.
Mr. Hazinski advised the Board that he has contacted the New York
Central System by telephone on preNious occasions and on August 14,
o963 a letter was sent to the division engineer in Chicago. Mr. Hazinski
also requested that the intersection at Ford Street and Lincolnway Wlest
be repaired as soon as possible. No answer has been received as of
this date.
This matter will be continued for one week.
REPORTS: POLICE DEPARTMENT
Reports for the months of July and August, 1963 were submitted to the
Board, accepted and ordered placed on file.
STREET LIGHT OUTAGE REPORTS
Street Light Outage Reports were accepted and ordered placed on file.
HEALTH DEPARTMENT REPRESENTATIVE
Steven Molnar, representing the Health Department, was present at
the meeting.
There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting
was adjourned at 11:30 A.M.
