Street Light Outage Reports were accepted and ordered placed on file.
DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH REPRESENTATIVE
Mr. Steven Molnar, representing the St. Joseph County Health Department
was present at the meeting.
There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting
was adjourned at 10:55 A.M.

June 24, 1963
A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday,
June 24, 1963 at 10:00 A.M. All members were present. Minutes of
the last regular meeting were read and approved. Vouchers were
approved and ordered paid to the various suppliers.
TRAFFIC ENGINEER: INSTALLATIONS TRAFFIC SIGNS
Following the recommendation of the Traffic Engineer, the following
installations were approved:
No Parking signs installed on northeast side of 1000 block
of Lincolnway East
Stop Signs installed on Sampson Street, both sides, at
Calvert St.
Stop Signs installed on Doke Street, bbth sides, at Calvert.
POLICE DEPARTMENT: RETIREMENT AND TERMINAL LEAVE ( SGT. WETTERGREN )
Sgt. Edward Wettergren requested that the Board accept his application
for Terminal Leave and retirement. Said Terminal Leave will start on
June 20, 1963 and Retirement on July 5, 1963.
The Board accepted the Terminal Leave and Retirement, with regret, and
wished to commend Sgt. Wettergren on his many years of service on the
Police Department.
POLICE DEPARTMENT: MILITARY'LEAVE ( OFFICER JAMES ROBISON
The Board approved the request of Officer James Robison for military
leave from July 28 to August ll, 1963. The training will take place
at Tool Ord. Depot, Toole, Utah.

DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH REPRESENTATIVE
Mr. Steven Molnar, representing the St. Joseph CountyHealth Department was
not present at the meeting. Rx. Molnar is on vacation.
APPOINTMENT: FIRE DEPARTMENT (DUANE R. RADZIKOWSKI )
Duane R. Radzikowski, having made application for membership' n the..Fire
Department, and having fulfilled the requirements of the Firemen's
Pension Fund and said applicant having been recommended by the:'Ftre
Chief and accepted by the Pension Fund, the Board finds as follows:
Based upon the recommendation of the Fire Chief and aceeptance by
the Firemen's Pension Fund, the Board rules that Duane R. Radzikowski
be appointed to the Fire Department on a probationary basis for a period
of nine months, effective July 1, 1963
During this probationary period Mr. Radzikowski shall learn all Rules
and Rdgulations of the Fire Department and shall conduct himself on and
off duty in a manner becoming a member of the Fire Department.
Two weeks before the end of the first six months, ithere will be submitted
to this Board a Report stating whether this applicant is capable to
continue. Two weeks prior to the end of the nine month probationary
period, there shall be submitted to this Board a second Report on
the applicant's perf6fmance as a probationary fireman.
If these Reports are satisfactory, the applicant shall be appointed
a full fireman at the end of the nine month's-probationary period.
BUILDING DEPARTMENT ( SUBSTANDARD DIVISION) HEARINGS_
Comes now Mrs. Yates Paar, with reference to property located at 1604
Longley. This property was damaged by fire and Mrs. P_aar'_stated that
she -had just received her insurance payment due because of the fire.
When asked to show cause why the property, which has been condemned,
has not been repaired.
After hearing Mrs. Paar and Mr. Grabarz, the Board continued this
until September 31, 1963 at which time the exterior of the dwelling
must be up to standard.
With reference to property being purchased by Clara Thomas on Land
Contract, formerly owned by James J. Cauffman, repair orders have been
ignored. This property is located at 317 S. Kentucky Street.
After hearing the details concerning this property, the Board continued
the hearing until August 5, 1963.
With reference to property owned by Claude Weldy, located at 416 E.
Paris Street, the Sub -Standard Division was directed to proceed with
demolition order.
With reference to property owned by Mr. Rightley of St. Clair Shores,
Michigan, said property being located at 122 E. Paris Street, W.
Grabarz informed the Board that a letter sent via Certified Mail, return
receipt requested, had not yet been acknowledged and no return receipt
has been received.
Case continued for one week to allow sufficient time for acknowledgment
by Mr. Rightley.
DEMOLITION BIDS:
Mr. Grabarz advised the Board that the following bids had been
received for demolition of a structure located at 122 N. Studebaker
Street:
A & J. Demolition $365.00 with salvage
B & 0 Wrecking Co. $325.00 ° of
The bid,was awarded to B & 0 WreckingCCo.
RE: BICYCLE REGULATIONS
Following a question by Miss Virginia Guthrie concerning regulations
governing bicycless being ridden in residential areas and failing to
sound horns to warn pedestrians, the Board requested the Police
Department to investigate and enforce ordinances concerning sounding
of horns.
PERMISSION TO BARRICADE SIDEWALK LSCHUMACHER & S0
Permission was granted Peter Schumacher & Sons, Inc., to barricade the
sidewalk at 303-305 S. Michigan Street and construct a street walk.
Said barricade will be effective from July 1, 1963 for a period of
5 weeks. Said barricade is necessary in order to make building
repairs.
The Parting Meter Department shall be notified that permission is
granted to Peter Schumacher & Sons, Inc., to,
park one truck at this
location, but it shall be closed to all other vehicles for parking
Purposes*
Clem Hazinski, Traffic Engineer, will coordinate this matter.
PERMISSION TO OCCUPY ALLEY(OLIVER ANNEX)
Permission was granted H. G. Christman Construction Co., Inc., to
occupy the alley north of the Oliver Annex for a period to July 12,
1963. Said occupancy is required in order to make building repairs.
PETITION: ELECTRICAL DEPT- LST. LIGHTS)
A Petition from Lloyd Henderson and other residents in the area
requesting the installation of a street light in the alley at the rear
of 1112-1114 Franklin Street was referred to the Electrical Department
for investigation and recommendation.
STREET LIGHT INSTALLATION
Following the recommendation of Nicholas Horvath, Electrical Department
Superintendent, the Board approved the following installation:
1 .4000 lumen street light at corner 'of 30th and Horne Ct.
WEIGHTS & MEASURES MONTHLY REPORT
A Report from the Weights & Measures Department for the month of
May, 1963 was accepted and ordered placed on file.
There being no further business to come before the Board, the
meeting was adjourned at 10:45 A.M.
