HomeMy WebLinkAbout06/17/63 Board of Public Works MinutesJune 17, 1963 A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday, June 17, 1963 at 10:00 A.M. All members were present. Minutes of .the last regular meeting were read and approved. Vouchers were approved and ordered paid to the various suppliers. BUILDING DEPARTMENT - SUB -STANDARD DIVISION (_HEARINGS Comes now John Grabarz, Director of the Sub -Standard Division of the Building Department and advises the Board that Vestor Heron, 1107 High Street had been asked to appear before the Board but had failed to do so, to show cause why property had not been brought up to standard. After hearing Mr. Grabarz, the Board directed that the property be ordered condemned. With reference, to property located at 517 E. Bronson Street, owned by Ivan Rogers, Mr. Grabarz reported that the house has been damaged by dry fire and that the owner had started to tear it down but had not completed the job in accordance with the rules of the Building Department. The Board directed Mr. Grabarz to take steps to have structure removed. With reference to property owned by Mrs. James Caufman, located at 317 S. Kentucky greet, Mr. Grabarz was directed to issue condemnation orders. Comes now Louis Smogor, Building Commissioner, with reference to property located at 202 S. Scott, Street, owned by Vern Burbridge. Mr. Smogor advised the Board that this structure was being torn down by Mr. Burbrildge but that work was progressing so slowly that it would be impossible to say when the demolition would be completed. Mr. Smogor also advised the Board that the work could be completed in 30 days. The Board, after hearing Mr. Smogor and also after hearing Mr. Vern Burbridge who was present) ruled that the structure shall be demolished in thirty days. KIIST: CLOSE ALLEY - ( OLIVER ANNEX REPAIR H. G. CHRISTMAN CONSTRUCTION C0� INC. H. G. Christman Construction Co., Inc. requested permission to close the alley north of the Oliver Annex, or DbComb Apartments, from June 18, 1963 for a period of two weeks during the repair of the Oliver Annex. Permission granted and the Clerk directed to notify the City Departments. TRAFFIC ENGINEER: INSTALLATIONS ( TRAFFIC SIGNS ) Following the recommendation of Clem Hazinskip Traffic Engineer, the following installations were approved: 30 Minute time limit signs installed at 1815 S. Miami St. 2 Hour time limit signs installed at 1702 W. Washington ?Avenue. 1 Hour time limit signs installed at 922 E. Jefferson Blvd. POLICE DEPARTMENT_ MILITARY LEAVE RUSSELL L. HUNf ) Permission was granted Inspector Russell L. Hunt of the Police Department to attend the U, S. Army Command & General Staff Reserve School from July 1, 1963 to July 13, 1963 at Camp McCoy, Wisa) nsin. Permission granted. APPLICATION: POLICE DEPARTMENT An application for the Police Department from Timothy Allen Reuse was accepted and ordered placed on file. STREET LIGHT OUTAGE REPORTS_ Street Light Outage Reports were accepted and ordered placed on file. DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH REPRESENTATIVE Mr. Steven Molnar, representing the St. Joseph County Health Department was present at the meeting. There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting was adjourned at 10:55 A.M. k June 24, 1963 A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday, June 249 1963 at 10:00 A.M. All members were present. Minutes of the last regular meeting were read and approved. Vouchers were approved and ordered paid to the various suppliers. TRAFFIC ENGINEER: INSTALLATIONS TRAFFIC SIGNS Following the recommendation of the Traffic Engineer, the following installations were approved: No Parking signs installed on northeast side of 1000 block of Lincolnway East Stop Signs installed on Sampson Street, both sides, at Calvert St. Stop Signs installed on Doke Street, both sides, at Calvert. POLICE DEPARTMENT: RETIREMENT AND TERMINAL LEAVE ( SGT. WETTERGREN-1 Sgt. Edward Wettergren requested that the Board accept his application for Terminal Leave and retfurement.. Said Terminal Leave will start on June 20, 1963 and Retirement on July 5, 1963. The Board accepted the Terminal Leave and Retirement, with regret, and wished to commend Sgt. Wettergren on his many years of service on the Police Department. POLICE DEPARTMENT: MILITARY LEAVE( OFFIEER JAMES ROBISON) The Board approved the request of Officer James Robison for military leave from July 28 to August 11, 1963. The training will take place at Tool Ord. Depot, Toole, Utah.
