A regular meccing of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday,
February 259 1963 at 10:00 A.M. Messrs. Andrysiak and Davies were
present. Minutes of the last regular meeting were read and approved.
Vouchers were approved and ordered paid to the various suppliers.

Mr. Frederick Forsey, 224 N. Sheridan Avenue, appeared before the Board
and submitted a list of addresses of homes which, according to the
list, are empty. Mr. Forsey also stated to the Board that the
residents of this area do not want any more old houses moved into
this area.
Mr. Andrysiak explained that the Board has no control of this situation,
and that the best it -can do is to enforce the 3uilding Code and
see that houses that are moved into the area are brought up to
standard in accordance with the provisions of the Code.
The list was accepted and ordered placed on file.
Comes now John Grabarz and reports that a house located at 109 S.
Liberty Street is owned by Mr. Willis Devine. Mr. Grabarz informed
the+,Board that he had made an investigation of the house at 109 S.
Liberty Street and that said house is sub -standard.
It was pointed out that the Sub -Standard Division will issue a vacatian
order for this property, effective immediately. House will have to
be brought up to standard in all things before final approval. Mr.
Grabarz was directed to take whatever steps were necessary to see
that this matter is completed as ordered.
Mr. Grabarz submitted a progress report on the dwelling located at
261 N. Chicago Street, owned by Mr. Willis Devine. Mr. Grabarz
reported that the cribbing that the house is standing on broke and
that the house was broken in two.
Mr. C. Green, 201 N. Chicago Street, appeared before the Board and
stated that he did not want thys-:house on Chicago Street.
Mr. Devine was given a week's continuance in order to determine whether
this house could be brought up to standard.
The Board was advised that this house was moved on approximately
February 11, 1963 and that the owner is allowed 60 days to bring
property up to standard.
If the owner elects to bring property up to standard it must be complete
by the expiration of this 60 days period. In any event, the house
will have to meet all Code requirements before approval is given.
A snapshor_ of the --house at 261 N. Chicago Street was accepted and
ordered placed on file.
Mr. Devine.also stated that he will withdraw his request to move his
house from 261 to 142.

FIRE DEPARTMENT PERMISSION TOADADVERTISE) - AERIAL PLATFORM_
At ,the request of Fire Chief Andrzejewski,.permission was granted to
advertise.for a motorized hydraulic 65' aerial platform for the
Fire Department.
The Fire Chief informed the Board that funds are available for
this purchase.
Advertisements will be placed in.The South Bend Tribune and The
Record on March 81 March 15, 1963. Bids will be opened at 10:00
A.M. on March 25, 1963.
FIRE DEPARTMENT - APPOINTMENT ,RENCE J. KAMINSKI )
Upon the recommendation of the Fire Chief and the Firemen's Pension
Fund, the Board now appoints Mr. Clarence J. Kaminski to the South
Bend Fire Department, effective March 1, 1963.
Following the recommendation of Nicholas Horvath, Superintendent of
the Electrical Department, a Petition from residents on Ironwood
Drive for the installation of 3 street lights in this area is denied.
Mr. Horvath, in a report to the Board, explains his unfavorable
recommendation as follows:
I do not believe this request should be granted at this
time because these locations requested are not street
intersections.
ELECTRICAL DEPARTMENT ( PETITION - STREET LIGHT-PQLAND STR
A Petition from residents on Poland and Meade Streets for the
installation of a street light on Pola d Street between Meade
and Staley Streets was referred to the Electrical Department
for investigation and recommendation.
STREET LIGHT OUTAGE REPORTS
Street Light Outage Reports were approved and ordered placed on file.
APPLICATION: TAXICAB DRIVER'S LICENSE ( BARINGER
Following the reoeftvAndation of the City Controller, the Board
approved a conditional taxicab driver's license for Mr. Robert P.
Barringer, 414 Walsh Street, South Bend, Indiana.
This license is approved, subject to the applicant's personal behavior
and driving record for one year.
There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting
was adjourned at 11:00 A.M.
