HomeMy WebLinkAbout01/21/63 Board of Public Works Minutes1-2 January 21, 1963. A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on M9nday, January 21, 1963 at 10:00 A.M. All members were present. Minutes of the last regular meeting were read and approved. Vouchers were approved and ordered paid to the various suppliers. OPEN BIDS: TRAFFIC ENGINEER HEAT LAMP VACUUM SIGN APPLICATOR The time now being after 10:00 A.M. it was so announced and bid for a Heft Lamp Vacuum Sign Applicator was opened. Proofs of Publication from The South Bend Tribune with affidavit signed by Robert DeLong and The Record with affidavit signed by W. Joseph Doran were found sufficient. The following Bid was received: Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing Company 900 Bush Avenue Saint Paul 6, Minn. Opnn opening this Bid it was found that no Bid Bond or Certified Check was included in accordance with regulations. This Bid is disqualified and the advertisement for this piece of equipment will be re -run on January 25, February 1, 1963. Bids will be opened on February 4, 1963. PERMISSION TO ADVERTISE_ TRAFFIC ENGINEER ( PICK-UP TRUCK $ STATION WAGON_} Permission is granted to Clem Hazinski, Traffic Engineer, to advertise for one 1963 model ""ton Pick-up Truck, and one 1963 model Station Wagon. Advertisements will be placed on January 259 February 2, 1963. Bids will be opened on February 4, 1963 at 10:00 A.M. TRAFFIC ENGINEER INSTALL SIGNS Following the recommendation of Clem Hazinski, Traffic Engineer, the Board approved the following installations: 2 Hour Time Limit Signs installed at 1112-1116 & 1122 Mishawaka Avenue. CERTIFICATES OF INSURANCE ASSOCIATES INVESTMENT CO. TUNNEL The Board approved Certificates of Insurance from the Associates Investment Company for installation, maintenance and use of a tunnel under Ruskin Street. The insurance covers Bodily Injury Liability, Property Damage Liability and a Certificate of Insurance issued by Underwriters at Lloyd's, London for a limit of liability of $1,000,000 each occurrence combined for bodily injuries and property damage in excess of the limit of liability provided by the Company issuing `the,_ - Bodily Injury and Property Damage coverage. The Certificates were accepted and ordered placed on file. BUILDING DEPARTMENT ATTEND CONFERENCE Permission was granted to Louis Smogor, Building Commissioner and Elwyn Fienhold to attend a conference at the Chicago Plumbing Testing Laboratory in Chicago on January 26, 1963. BUILDING DEPARTMENT - SUB -STANDARD DIVISION HEARINGS Comes now Mr. Joiner, owner of property located at 324 N. Huey Street, and Mr. John Grabarz, Director of the Sub -Standard Division of the Building Department. Mr. Grabarz informed the Board that he had met with Mr. Joiner after the Board meeting of January 14 as directed by the Board to ascertain whether property can be brought up to standard. 2 17, After this discussion it was the opinion of Mr. Joiner that he could accomplish the necessary repairs to bring property up to standard by July 8, 1963. It was the decision of the Board to allow this continuance with the stipulation that all Code requirements will be met and property be completely repaired by this date. Failure to do so will result in demolition. Comes now Mrs. Mary Lee Williams, owner of property located at 1216 S. Franklin Street. Mr. Grabarz reported that repairs have not been made, although property was condemned but was not torn down. Mr. Grabarz also advised the Board that advertisements for bids for demolition had been placed in accordance with the Board's instructions. Case continued for one week in order to discuss with Mrs. Williams the possibility of repairing this property. If Mrs. Williams elects to bring property up to standard, all work must be complete by July z 8, 1963. ELECTRICAL DEPARTMENT APPROVE INSTALLATIONS Following the recommendation of Mr. Nicholas Horvath, Electrical Department Superintendent, the Board approved the following installation; 1 - 4000 lumen street light at 522 S. Phillipa Street. SPECIAL POLICE BONDS BE IX CORP.I .The Board approved a blanket Bond covering Special Police officers employed by Bendix Corporation and ordered said Bond and attached list of Special Police Officers placed on file. FIRE DEPARTMENT( APPLICATION The Board accepted an application for the Fire Department from Mr. Anthony David Rozniarek and ordered same placed on file. STREET LIGHT OUTAGE REPORTS Street Light Outage Reports were accepted by the Board and ordered placed on file.
