A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday,
January 14, 1963 at 10:00 A.M. All members were present. Minutes
of the last regular meeting were read and approved. Vouchers were
approved and ordered paid to the various suppliers.
BUILDING DEPARTMENT ,( HOUSE MOVES
�GREENLAWN AVENUE TO CHICAGO STREET - 2 HOUSES
Comes now Mr. Louis Smogor, Building Commissioner, and requests
permission for two house moves, as follows:
From 1105 Greenlawn Avenue to 261 Chicago Street.
From 1109 Greenlawn Avenue to 262 Chicago Street.
The owner of these dwellings Willis C. Divine, the mover is
Lewis Mitschelen.
Comes now Mr. Ed Stasiak of 253 N. Chicago Street, to ascertain
whether houses to be moved will be in good condition. Mr. Stasiak
contended that two houses located at 242 and 255 N..Chicago Street,
had been condemned a,nd it was his opinion that the houses in
question had been moved from the Sample Street project.
After hearing Mr. Stasiak, Mr. Grabarz informed the Board that the
houses to be moved from Greenlawn to Chicago Street will be checked
and will meet all code requirements.
The Board further stipulated that both the mover and the owner will
have, insurance for injury and property damage and all property line
laws will be observed. A new requirement of the Board will be that
the owner and mover will provide someone :acquainted with traffic to
supervise the moving and assist in such moves.
With reference to the houses located at 242 and 255 N. Chicago Street,
Mr. Grabarz advised that Board and Mr. Stasiak that they had not been
condmned and if they have -become sub -standard since the move they will
be checked and brought up to standard.
Mr. Smith directed Mr. Grabarz to meet with Mr. Stasiak immediately
after the Board meeting on this date and submit a report by January
21 concerning this meeting.
The house moves described above were approved.
SUBSTANDARD DIVISION ( HEARINGS )
With reference to property located at 324 and 326 N. Huey Street,
purchased by Mr. William Joiner, Mr. Joiner appeared concerning the
possibility of bringing these properties up to standard.
Mr. Grabarz informed the Board that the house located at 326 N. Huey
may be repairable but that the one located at 324 is in bad condition.
Mr. Joiner requested additional time to bring property up to standard
and was given a continuance until July 8, 1963 in order to bring the
house located at 326 N. Huey up to standard.
With reference to his petition to bring the house at 324 N. Huey up
to standard, this petition was continued for one week so that Mr.
Grabarz and the owner may meet and discuss this possibility.

Mr. Grabarz reported that Mary Lee Williams had been ordered to
appear this date with reference to property located at 1216 S.
Franklin Street.and show cause why this house had not been repaired.
Since she failed to appear as ordered the Board directed Mr. Grabarz
to advertise for demolition bids.
TRAFFIC ENGINEER_- INSTALLATION OF PARKING METERS LAFAYETTE AND
JEFFERSON Mo.
Mr. Clem Hazinski, Traffic Engineer, submitted the following recommenda-
tion:
Demolition of the building at the northeast corner of Jefferson and
Lafayette and installation of an off-street parking facility at that
location renders the driveways at certain places useless. It is
recommended that parking meters be installed at the following location.
The time limit to be 60 minutes:
3 meters to be installed on the north side of the 200 block of
W. Jefferson just east of Lafayette Blvd.
1 meter across from 135 S. Lafayette Blvd.
1 meter across from 125 S. Lafayette Blvd.
This will .provide five additional on -street parking spaces in a
desirable area.
After due deliberation, the Board approved the above recommendation.
FIRE DEPARTMENT ATTEND INSTRUCTOR'S SCHOOL - LEDERER
At the request of Fire Chief Alex Andrzejewski, the Board approved
Assistant Chief Carl B. Lederer's attendance at an Instructor's
Schbol at Purdue University on January 23 and 24, 1963.
APPLICATION FIRE DEPARTMENT L
An application from Peter Tyre Boykins for the Fire Department was
accepted and ordered placed on file.
POLICE DEPARTMENT SPECIAL POLICE 1
The Board approved a Special Police Commission for Mr. Anthony L.
Boros, who is employed by the City of South Bend Sanitation Department
and ordered same placed on file.
APPLICATION POLICE DEPARTMENT An application for the Police
Department from Jerry Lee Irish was accepted and ordered placed on
file.
ELECTRICAL DEPARTMENT � STREET LIGHTS )
Following the recommendation of Nicholas Horvath, Superintendent of
the Electrical Department, the following installation was approved:
I - 4000 lumen street light at corner of Fremont and Bergan Streets.
STREET LIGi-1T OUTAGE REPORTS
Street Light Outage Reports were accepted and ordered .placed on file.

There being no further business to come before the Board, the
meeting was adjourned at 10:55 A.M.
