A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday,
January 7, 1963 at 10:00 A.M. All members were present. Minutes of
the last regular meeting were read and approved. Vouchers were approved
and ordered paid to the various suppliers.
HEARING: VIOLATION RULES AND REGULATIONS OF SOUTH BEND FIRE DEPARTMENT
LSTANLEY PIASECKI 7
Mr. Stanley Piaseckig,membeT of the Fire Department assigned to the
Electrical Department, failing to appear for a hearing at 9:30 A.M.
January 7, 1963 to answer to a charge filed by the Board of Public Works
& Safety for violation of the Rules and Regulations of the South Bend
Fire Department, Article XIV, Section 15-a; and further, it appearing
that notice of said hearing and copy of the Charge was served at Mr.
Piasecki's residence, the Board having examined said Charge and also
there being submitted a prior violation of Rules and Regulations of
the Fire Department, Article XIV, Section 15-a, and said Mr. Piasecki

having admitted to said violation, the Board finds that said Stanley,
Piasecki is guilty and that,his services are terminated forthwith as

a member of the South Bend Fire Department, assigned to the Electrical
Department.
PETITIONS: BEVERLY.PLACE - ONE WAY STREET AND CORNER HOUSE PARKING )
The following Petitions were submitted to the Board, examined and ordered
referred to the Traffic Engineer for investigetion and report:
1. Petition of residents on N. Beverly Place for establishment of a
one-way street on Beverly north from Oakwood Boulevard to Lathrop
Street for safety reasons.
2. Petition of patrons and proprietor of Corner House Restaurant
for parking facilities.
ADVERTISE: TRAFFIC ENGINEER HEAT LAMP VACUUM SIGN APPLICATOR
Comes now Clem Hazinski, Traffic Engineer, and requests permission to
have advertisements placed for bids on one Heat Lamp Vacuum Sign
Applicator.
Permission granted. Advertisements will be inserted on January 11,
January 18, 1963. Bids will be opened on January 21, at 10:00 A.M.
TRAFFIC SIGNS
Following the recommendation of Clem Hazinski, Traffic Engineer, the
following installations were approved:
Stop signs installed on Medora Street, both sides, at Kinyon Street.
12 Minute Parking limit sign installed on 1st meter west of the alley
on south side of 100 block West Monroe Street.
BUILDING DEPARTMENT ATTEND MEETINGGELWYN FIENHOLD )
Comes now Louis Smogor, Building Commissioner, and requests permission
to send Elwyn Fienhold, Chief Plumbing Inspector, to a one day meeting
of the American Society of Sanitary Engineers at Indianapolis, Indiana
on January 11, 1963.
Permission granted.
APPROVAL: ASSOCIATES INVESTMENT COMPANY TUNNEL ( BUILDING DEPARTMENT }
Comes now Louis Smogor, Building Commissioner, aid informs the Board
that the Associates Investment Company had requested permission to
construct a tunnel across Ruskin greet at the site of their new
building project. --
Permission granted with the understanding that the Associates
Investment ompany will indemnify the City of South Bend for $1009000
property damage, $500,000 individual accident and $1,000,000 aggregate
accident.
The Building Department was authorized to inform the Associates Investment
Company by letter and Certificate of Insurance is to be filed with
the Board. Also, this insurance must be continuous.

A Report for the month of December, 1962 from tte'lBuilding Department
was accepted and ordered placed on file.
WEIGHTS & MEARRES ( MONTHLY REPORTED
Reports for the months of November and December, 1962 from the Department
of Weights & Measures were accepted and ordered placed on file.
POLICE DEPARTMENT ATTEND SEMINAR - SGT. ROBERT W. MILLER 1
At Chief Harman's request, the Board approved the attendance of
Sgt. Robert W. Miller at a Traffic Inventory Seminar to be held at the
Indiana Office of Traffic Safety on January 7, 89 99 1963 in Indianapolis,
Indiana.
SPECIAL POLICE BONDS
The Board approved the following Special Police Bonds: Special Police
Officer Stanley V. Grayzck, an amployee of Torrington Company, and
Special Police Officer Allie Ahmed JoJo Sr.
APPLICATION: POLICE DEPARTMENT_
An application for -the Police Department from Glenn James Nevelle was
accepted and placed on file.
STREET LIGHT OUTAGE REPORTS
Street Light Outage Reports were accepted and ordered placed on file.
There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting
was adjourned at 10:45 A.M.
