A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday,
November 19, 1962 at 10:00 A.M. All members were present. Minutes
of the last regular meeting were read and approved. Vouchers were
approved and ordered paid to the various suppliers..
APPOINTMENT: BUILDING COMMISSIONER ( LOUIS SMMOOGOR }
The Board announced that Mr._ Louis Smogor had been approved as Building
Commissioner and would be appointed, effective December 1, 1962.
BUILDING DEPARTMENT - SUB -STANDARD DIVISION ( HEARINGS )
Comes now John Grabarz and advises the Board that Joseph Booney,
owner of property located at 2127 Merry Avenue had beeh-sequestedl:to
appear to show cause why repairs had not been made.
Mr. Booney requested a continuance in order to complate work. 11he
Board continued the case until March 25, 1963 at which time the
work must be completed or the property will be ordered demolished.
Mr. Booney advised the Board that this continuance was satisfactory
and the time allotted sufficient.
With reference to property located at 126 N. St, Louis Blvd., owned by
one Jennie Cohen, widow of adult age, this property is being taken tare
of by Mr. William Morris.
It was the decision of the Board that a continuance be granted until
February 25, 1963 at which time all work°.except outside painting shall
be completed.
PERMISSION TO ADVERTISE: BIKE,AUCTION
Permission was granted to the Clerk of the Board to place advertisements
advising of date of auction of abandoned bicycles now being held in
the Police Department. Augtion:shall be held at 2:00 P.M. on November
289 1962 in City Hall Court.
SPECIAL POLICE OOMMISSION LG.E`�METZ )
A Special Police Commission for George Edward Metz to act as Special
Police Officer for Merchant Security was approved by the Board and
ordered placed on file.
TRAFFIC ENGINEER ( TRAFFIC SIGNS )
Following the recommendation of Clem Hazinski, Traffic Engineer, the
following installationsof traffic signs were approved:
No Par,A g 3 P.M. to- 6_P,?A. atyam S. Main St.
Yield signs installed on Viking Street, both sides, at Eastmont
Yield sign on South Lea,,southwest corner, at Eastmont
Yield sign on Sampson, northwest corner, at Sampson St. Stop sign
on southeast corner.
3 - 2 hr. time limit signs at 802 S. Main St.
No Parking Passenger Loading zones established at entrances to Muessel
School on California Ave., Blaine and Cleveland Avenues.
CERTIFICATE OF INSURANCE ( OFFICE ENGINEERS 3 BUILDING DEPARTMENT
A Certificate of Insurance, indemnifying the City of South Bend, with
reference to property commonly known as 120 S. Michigan Street for
construction of an access panel was accepted and ordered placed on file.
BUILDING DEPARTMENT ( CONFERENCE )
Permission-asked,by.' Messrs. Ted lewandowski and John Grabarz to attend
a Building Officials Conference in Providence, Rhode Island from November
29, to December-r 1, 1962. _
ELECTRICAL DEPARTMENT (-INSTALLATIONS
Following the recommendation of Nicholas Horvath, Electrical Department
Superintendent, the following installations were approved:
1 - 4000 lumen street light at 1724 S. Chapin St.
1 - 4000 lumen street light at 3116 Chelsea Court.
OUTAGE REPORTS
Street Light Outage Reports were accepted and ordered placed on file.
There being no further business to come before the Board,
adjourned at 10:45 A.M.
