A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday,
October 29, 1962 at 10:00 A.M. Messrs. R. S. Andrysiak and Irving J.
Smith were present. Minutes of the last regular meeting were read and
approved. Vouchers were approved and ordered paid to the various suppliers.
OPENING OF BIDS FIRE DEPARTMENT SEDANS ANDLAWARDING OF BID
The time being after 10:00 A.M. it was so announced and bids for the
purchase of two sedans for the Fire Department were opened and read
aloud. Proofs of Publication from The South Bend Tribune with affidavit
signed by Robert DeLong and The Record with affidavit signed by Kathleen
Sweitzer were found sufficient.

Since it appears that Newman & Altman has the lowest bid for the
sedans, the bid will be awarded to Newman & Altman for both sedans,
provided said bids meet all specifications.
FIRE DEPARTMENT (_APPOINTMENT
David Michael Mezykowski, having met all requirements of the Firemen's
Pension Fund and having also met all other requirements of the Fire
Department, is hereby appointed as a member of the Fire Department,
effective November 19 1962.
Q:o FIRE DEPARTMENT ( PROMOTIONS )
00 Following the recommendation of Fire Chief Andrzejewski, the following
promotions are hereby approved, effective November 19 1962:
Lieutenant Aloysius Wcisel to the rank of Captain
Private Joseph V. Nagy to the rank of Lieutenant
Private Harold G. Waechter to the rank of Lieutenant
FIRE CHIEF - ATTEND MEETING'.'.
Fire Chief Andrzejewski was granted permission to attend a meeting
in Indianapolis on October 31, 1962.
ATTEND NATIONAL SAFEZY COUNCIL _CONMESS ( SGf. MILLER )
Permission was .granted Sgt. Robert Miller, of Traffic Safety Council,
to attend the National Safety Council Congress in Chicago from October
30 to November 2, 1962. Transportation and expenses will be charged to
the Traffic Commission Budget.
RE: NEW YORK CENTRAL RAILROAD - TRAFFIC ENGINEER
A progress report on the New York Central Railroad spur tracks on
W. Washington Avenue was given by Clem Hazinski, Traffic Engineer.
Mr. Hazinski reported that as the result of a telephone call to Mr.
W. Barthlein, Division Engineer of New York Central Railroad on October
26, 1962, Mr. Barthlein had promised that this crossing will be repaired
by removing ties and tracks in these sections and to replace properly.
This work is to be completed by an application of black top to make for
a smooth crossing. He further stated that this work should be finished
within two weeks, depending on weather conditions.
Mr. Hazinski submitted a confirmation letter from Mr. Baerthlein and
promised to follow through on this program and report findings to the
Board.
PETITIONS: STREET LIGHTS
The following Petitions for street lights were referred to the Electrical
Department for investigation and recommendation:
Street Light bwtween the 500 and 600 block of S. 26th Street.
Street Light on Parkway
STREET LIGHT OUTAGE REPORTS
Street Light Outage Reports were accepted and ordered placed on file.

MONTHLY REPORT ( POLICE DEPT. )
A report for the month of September, 1962 from the Police Department
was accepted and ordered placed on file.
SPECIAL POLICCOMMISSION ( TED. LEWANDOWSKI )
A Special Police Commission for Ted Lewandowski, Building Department,
was approved.
BUILDING DEPARTMENT -.IE,-STANDARD DIVISION i HEARINGS
With reference to property owned by William Morris, 616 N. Hill Street,
Mr. Grabarz was directed to advertise for demolition.
At the request of Mr. Grabarz, demolition order for property located
at 106-1062 S. St. Louis will be held up until January 14, 1962.
Mr. Grabarz reported that this property appears to have been purchased
in good faith by Mr. R°ibhard George.
There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting
was adjourned.at 10:45 A.M.
