HomeMy WebLinkAbout10/15/62 Board of Public Works Minutes93 October 15, 1962 A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday, October 15, 1962 at 10:00 A.M. DST. All members were present. Minutes of the last regular meeting were read and approved. Vouchers were approved and ordered paid to the various suppliers. BUILDInG DEPARTMENT - SUB -STANDARD DIVISION ( HEARINGS ) Comes now Mr. Sam Bernstein, owner of property located at 16081 Prairie Avenue to show cause why property, which is now vacant and has been seriously damaged by vandals,'has not been brought up to standard. Mr. Bernstein requested six months continuance. This request was granted by the Board with the stipulation that windows be boarded up immediately and all precautions to protect property from vandals be done in.accordance with the Building Department's specifications. At the end of this six month period, property must be brought up to standard or property will be ordered demolished. With reference to property located at 106-1061 S. St. Louis Blvd., Mr. Grabarz reported that Mrs. Dorothy Gross has buyer for property and requested to withhold action for°one week. It was the decision of the Board that Mrs. Grose appear with buyer and approved contracts for this property. Otherwise, order will be given to advertise for bids for demolishment. Rev. John H. Bowles appeared with reference to property located at 527 Euclid Avenue and to show cause why he had failed to appear on October 1, 1962 and submit list of estimated cost from various contractors to bring property up to standard as ordered by the Board. Rev. Bowles claimed that Mr. Harry Taylor, attorney, had been ill and was unable to represent him at this hearing. It was the decision of the Board that Mr. Grabarz send notice by registered mail to Mr. Taylor that case would be continued for one week. Mr. Peter Nemeth, attorney for Estate of Joseph and Helen Vida, 1613 W. Ewing, requested a aDntinuance before demolition order is carried out, in order to determind whether it is feasible to make repairs. Request granted and hearing continued for one week. A report on property located at 416 Pennsylvania Avenue was given by Mr. Grabarz. He reported that there is a new owner and requested a continuance in order to contact new owner concerning this property. Permission granted and case continued for sixth days or until December 17, 1962. -- - ..�...,.�,.. "n,,,nv_t►u orue - w. wAbKlNVT©N Clem Hazinski, Traffic Engineer, was ordered by the Board of Public Works 8 Safety to contact the New York Central Railroad concerning hazardous condition of its spur tracks the Avenue. The Board further stated that in the unless 1700 block of W. Washington some action is taken this hazard the Board will take steps to see on that repairs are made. Mr. Hazinski was directed by the Board to submit a report on his proigress. ELECTRICAL DEPARTMENT ( STREET LIGHT' INSTALLATIONS ) Following the recommendation of Nicholas Horvath, Superintendent of the Electrical Department, the following installations were approved: 1. 1 - 4000 lumen street light at intersection of Rerick Dr. and Cabot Drive. 2. 1 - 4000 lumen street light at intersection of Rerick Drive and Rose Street. ELECTRICAL DEPARTMENT ( COUNCILMAN COLEMAN'S REQUEST - HUMBOLDT LIGHT) With reference to Councilman Coleman's request for a street light at the intersection of Humboldt and Clevelandp Mr. Horvath reports that he was unable to get the cooperation of petitioner Mr. Miller of 1148 Cleveland Avenue to set a pole in order to get lines out of alley to corner of Cleveland and Humboldt. 'This area is underground boulevard lighting. With reference to a request from Councilman Krueper for additional -street lighting in Eastgate Estates, especially on Haas Drivel Mr. Horvath reports that petitions have been prepared for the locations with street lights .can be installed for property owner's signature and consent. ELECTRICAL DEPARTMENT (.PETITION FOR STREET LIGHT — NAPOLEON & FOSTER ) A letter from George V. Schmitt, 218 Napoleon Boulevard states that on behalf of his neighbors and himself that a street light be installed at southeast corner of Napoleon Boulevard and Foster Street. The request was referred to the Electrical Department for investigation and recommendation. CERTIFICATE OF INSURANCE H. G. CHRISTMAN CONSTRUCTION CO., -_ NATIONAL A Certificate of Insurance from H. G. Christman Construction Company in connection with National Bank and Trust Company sidewalk contract indemnifying the City of south Bend for accident and property damage was accepted by the Board and ordered placed on file. .
