All members were present. Minutes " of the last regular meeting were read and approved. Vouchers were approved and ordered paid to the various suppliers. GR a I ON 9E MAUI C S I,ONALS H B V UE & I NROAD) The City of South Bend entered into an Agreement with the State Highway Canission for the State of Indiana for the installation of traffic signals at State Road 239, (South Bend Avenue) and Edison Road. The Agreement for said installation which follows the usuA 1 regulations for such installations was ordered placed on file in the Office of the Board of Public Works & Safety. TRAFFIC..F�tG.IrjER .t TRAFFIC ST_,_,GPI�, ) Following the recommendation of the Traffic Engineer, installations were approveds 3 - 2 Hour time limit signs installed on south side of `100 block E. Dubail to corner 112 & 110 E. Dubail. 2.- 2 Hour time limit signs in front of 1702 S. Michigan St. Yield signs installed on Sampson St., both sides,'at'Altgeld St. Yield sign installed on Sorin'St., southwest corner ,'at,Hickory Rd. Yield sign installed on Corby St., southwest corner at Hickory Rd. Stop Sign installed on Rexford St., southwest corner, at Hickory Rd. Stop Sign installed on Brentwood Court, southeast corners at L.W.W. No Parking This Side signs on Ford Street, south side, from Kosciusko to Olive Sto the following Loading Zone signs 8 curb painted yellow at 604 N. Main St., entrance to Memorial Hospital 2D MPH signs 8 No Parking This Side sign installed on north side of Keller Street just west of Iowa Street 20 MPH sign installed on south side of Keller Street mid -block between Illinois and Wellington Streets. ELE tICAL DEPARTMENT ( STREET LiGHrs) Following the recommendation of Nicholas Horvath, Superintendent of the Electrical Department, the following installations were approved: 1 - 4000 lumen street light at 708 E. Sorin St. 1 - 4000 lumen street light mid 1500 Block South Taylor St. PETITION. COAL DUST HAZARD-(,S HARRIS 8 IODSCIUSZKO i 1 A Petition from residents of S. Harris Street and Kosciuszko.Street was submitted to the Board. Said Petition complained of a coal dust hazard in the area. The Clerk of the Board was directed to contact the Health Department and ascertain the source of such hazard, so that the condition can be corrected. EIRE_ ARTMENT ( CHIEF TO ATTEND CONFERENCES Comes now Chief Alex Andrzejewski, and requests permission:to attend the Indiana State Fire Chiefs Conference from September 11 to September 15, 1962. The Chief also requested permission to attend the International Conference in Toronto, Canada on September 22 through September 299 1962. Permission was granted for such attendance. FIRE C. LE2= ATTEM 8EETING-ALSO FLARY Chief Andrzejewski requested permission to send Assistant Chief, Carl Leder r, to attend Purdue University# Tuesday , Septam#�e 18; 1962. Captslu Flary will also attend the meeting aP Purdue University. Permission granted. CERTIFICATE OF INSURANCE ( FREEMAN -SPIN) A Certificate of Insurance from Freeman -Spicer for Public Liability for their premises at 520 S. Lafayette Blvd. was accepted by the -Board and ordered placed on file. EOLICE DEPAR ( LEAVE OFAB .Q MILITARY DUPY ) Permission was granted to officer R. E. Scott to be on leave from September 1, to September l6, 1962 in order to participate in Active Duty Training at Battle Creek Federal Center, Battle Creek, Michigan. POLICE DEPARTMENT i ATTEND NARODTICS SCHOOL ) Permission was granted to Lieutenant Melvin Pasalich and Detective Sergeant Irvin C. Hampton to attend the Treasury Department Bureau of Narcotics School in Washington,.D.C`from September 10, 1962 to September 22, 1962. POLICE DEPARTMENT ( LETTER OF PRAISE A letter from Ray J. Lattimer, praising the Police Department for their splendid.work in,an,attempted burglary at Krauser's was accepted by the Board and ordered placed on file. BUILDING DEPARTMENT .HOUSE MOVE ) Permission was granted to.move a house from 309 W. Grove Street, Mishawaka, Indiana to 815 S. Logan Street$ South Bend, Indiana. The Board was informed by the Building Department that all necessary affidavits have been received by the Department and the house has been checked and a list_of the necessary repairs is on file in the Building Department. Permission to move this house is granted provided all necessary regulations as set down by the Building Department are followed and necessary repairs . are made. The house is owned -by Floyd H. Frisbie and the mover is Lewis Mitschelen. A & J Wrecking 400 y0h salvage Bids for demolition of property located at 1312 W. Jefferson Blvd. were as follows: B & 0 Wrecking Company $175 with salvage $250 without A & J Demolition Co. 250.00 with salvage 26th bids were awarded to B & 0 Wrecking Company, with salvage. SUB -STANDARD DIVISION f HEARING ) John Grabarz informed the Board that Mr. Joseph Binder, owner of property located at 607 W. Wayne Street, had been ordered to appear before the Board to show cause why repair orders for the property had not been carried out. Since Mr. Binder did not appear before the Board as directed, the Board authorized Mr. Grabarz to proceed with demolishment orders and that Mr. Binder should be notified of such intention. The Board -granted a request from Nattonal, Bank & Trust Co., through the Building Department to barricade part of W. Jefferson Boulevard in order to install a new sidewalk. Said barricade will be from September 10, 1962 to September 219 1962. - The Board stipulated that the usual precautions be taken in connection with this barricade and Proof of Insurance indemnifying the `City of South Bend must be filed with the Board.
