A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday,
August 20, 1962 at 10:00 A.M. All members were present. Minutes of
the last regular meeting were read and approved. Vouchers were approved
and ordered paid to the various suppliers.
BUILDING DEPARTMENT - SUB -STANDARD DIVISION HEARINGS
With reference to the demolition of a structure located at 1838 N.
Elmer Street, the Sub -Standard Division of the Building Department
reported that the only bid received as the result of advertising for
such demolition was one from A & J. Demolition, Inc., for the sum of
$250.009 with salvaga.
The Board approved the letting of such bid for $250.00 to A & J.
Demolition, Inc.
A hearing on property located at 213 E. Paris Street was continued
until September 24, 1962 at the recommendation of the Sub -Standard
Division of the Building Department.
A hearing on property located at 660 Laporte Avenue was scheduled for
this date. Permission was granted to the Sub -Standard Division
representative to advertise for bids for demolition of structure
at this address, with the stipulation that the owner be notified.
A hearing on property located at 1312 W. Jefferson Boulevard was
held and permission granted to advertise for bids for demolition of
structure on this property, with the stipulation that the owner be
notified.
CERTIFICATE OF INSURANCE ( MU IA CONSTRUCTION COMPANY, INC.
A Certificate of Insurance from Muia Construction Company, Inc.
indemnifying the City of South Bend against injury and property
ddmage was accepted by the Board and ordered placed on file.
REPORT: TRAFFIC ENGINEER ( TRUCK TRAFFIC ON FALCON STREET)
A Report from the Traffic Engineer on truck traffic on Falcon Street
as the result of a Petition from residents of the area requesting
speed limit signs and prohibition of trucks on Falcon Street betweem
Western Avenue and Washington Avenue was submitted to the Board.
As a result of investigation, the Traffic Engineer recommended that
"Thru Trucks Prohibited" signs and 30 mile per hour signs be installed
on Falcon Street between Western Avenue and Washington Avenue.
Following the recommendation of the Traffic Engineer, the above
suggested signs and regulations concerning such truck traffic was
approved by the Board.
TRAFFIC ENGINEER ( TRAFFIC SIGNS APPROVED)
Following the recommendation of the Traffic Engineer, the following
signs were ordered installed:

1"Hr. time limit signs installed in front of 2109 S. Michigan
3 - "No Parking 6 A.M. & 3 P.M. Mon. Thru Fri." on northside
of 600 E. Colfax Avenue
2 - 2 Hr. time limit sign in front of 1921 S. Miami & on Bowman
Street along side of 1921 S. Miami St.
4 - No Pariing This Side signs on north side of 1100 block of E.
Chalfant from -Arthur --Street to Eddy Street.

REGULATIONS TO TREE REMOVING COMPANIES ( TRAFFIC ENGINEER)
The Board requested Clem Hazinski, Traffic Engineer' to notify all
duly licensed tree removal companies in the area regarding rules
and regulations which govern the removal of trees from property
adjoining city streets. This is done so that proper precautions
may be taken for,the::safety of persons and control of traffic.
PROGRESS REPORT: RAILROAD TRACK REPAIRS TRAFFIC ENGINEER)
Clem Hazinskit Traffic Engineer, was requested to submit a Progress
Report on the developments to date on improvements 6f railroad
crossings in the City of South Bend by all railroads incldddd in
the survey.
PETITION FOR STREET LIGHT ELECTRICAL DEPT.)
A Petition from residents of Miner Street requesting the installation
of a street light between Eddy and Arthur Streets on Miner Street
was referred to the Eledtrisal Department for investigation and
recommendation.
SPECIAL POLICE BOND
A Special Police Bond
placed on file.

accepted and ordered placed on file.

file.
STREET LIGHT OUTAG-E REPORTS
Street Light Outage Reports were accepted and ordered placed on file.
WEIGHTS & MEASLRES DEPARTMENT REPORT
A Report from the Weights & Measures Department for the month of July,
1962 was accepted and ordered placed on file.
There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting was
adjourned at 10:45 A.M.
