A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday,
July 16, 1962 at 10:00 A.M. DST. All members were present. Minutes of
the.last regular meeting were read and approved. Vouchers were approved
and ordered paid to the various suppliers.
OPENING OF BIDS ( PAINTING OF FIRE STATIONS )'
The time now being after 10:00 A.M. it was so announced and bidL for the
painting of certain trim of Fire Stations 5, 6, 7, g and Central Station.
was opened and read aloud. Proofs of Publication from The South Bend
Tribune with affidavig signed by Robert DeLong and The Record with
affidavit signed by Kathleen Sweitzer were found sufficient.
The following bid was received:

For Canopy of Fire Stations No. 6, No. 7, No. S. This
includes scraping and applying one coat of matching color.
Station 5, all parts now painted one coat of matching color.
Central Station; all trim, eaves, downspouts and hose towers.
Scrape putty where necessary and prime bare spots. Will furnish
all labor, material, equipment and supervision to complete the
above work, for sum of $1,116.00
Alternate No. 1 - 2nd coat at Central Station, add to
above 425.00
Bid Bond for $155.00 signed by Wayne W. Knaak, Gen. Supt.

ELECTRICAL DEPARTMENT ( APPROVAL ST. LIGHT INSTALLATIONS_)
Following the recommendation of Nicholas Horvath, Superintendent of the
Electrical Department the following installations were approved:
1 - 4000 lumen street light at 931 Parkway St.
1 - 4000 lumen street light at 915 S. Edison Ave.
1 - 4000 lumen street light at 1900 fllock S. Walnut Street.
STREET LIGHT OUTAGE REPORTS
Street Light Outage RBports were accepted and ordered placed on file.
POLICE DEPARTMENT APPOINTMENT ( WOODWARD )
The Police Pension Fund Eoard of Trustees having considered the application
of Raymond W. Woodward and having found that said applicant meets the various
qualifications demanded by the Pension Fund Board, and Mr. Woodward having
the recommendation of Police Chief Harman, it is the decision U the Board
that Raymond W. Woodward be appointed as.a member of the South Bend Police
Department, effective July 16, 1962.
ATTEND SCHOOL ( POLICE DEPT. : CAPT. BADIOS
Following the recommendation of Police Chief Harman, Capt. R. E. Badicx was
given permission to attend a two-way radio service school (Motorola) in
the Motorola plant in Chicago from August 6, 19621to August 10, 1962. The
school ia.free, the only expense will be incurred in food and lodging.
BUILDING DEPARTMENT ( ATTEND MEETING)
Permission was granted to Verner Lane, Building Commissioner, to attend a
Joint Industry Advisory Committee on Rood Truss Design Membershi Roster

meeting in Roanoke, Virgin.- Said meeting will be held at the firginia
Polytechnical Institute on August 2, and August 3, 1962.

ATTEND DRILL RESERVE UNIT-T POLICE DEPT. R. E. SOOTT)
Permission was granted Officer R. E. Scott to attend a two day drill on
July 21, 22, 1962 at Ft. Benj.--Harrison in Indianapolis with Reserve Unit.
BUILDING DEPARTMENT ( HOUSE MOVE • 220 W NAVARRE)
Comes now Verner Lane, -Building Commissioner, and requests permission
to move a house from 220 W. Navarre Street to 2429 W. Bertrand, Lot
209 Kaley's 2nd Sub. The mover is lrwin Worden.
Appearing before the Board with reference to the above house move
were Lela and George Milner of 2502 Bertrand Street. Mr, and Mrs.
Milner advised the Board that they had received notice of such a move
on Saturday, July 14, 1962 and requested additional time in which to
investigate the proposed move.
Verner Lane informed the Board that notices had been delivered by hand
on Saturday, July 14, 1962.
Inasmuch as the Board was of -the opinion that not --sufficient time had
been given to adjacent residents and property owners on -'Bertrand Street
that such a house move was pending, the move was continued until July
23, 1962.
The Board further advised those present interested in such a house move
that the house move would be approved if it was found that the mover
had met all requirements Aet down for a house move.
BUILDI'_VG DEPARTMENT SUB -STANDARD DIV. ( HEARINGS )
Comes now Miss Pearl Daar with reference to property located at 513-515
E. Pennsylvania Avenue to show cause why she has not complied with
repair orders for the property.
Since property has not been brought up to standard as ordered, the Board
directed that demolition orders be prepared and carried out.
With reference to property owned by George S. Blair located at 502
S. 29th Street, Mr. Grabarz was directed to do all things necessary
to have property cleaned up.
At the request of Mr. Grabarz, property located at 1802 Randolph Street,
owned by Ottie Mae O'Hara for which bids were to be let for demolition
was discussed, and a continuance of 30 days was granted for the letting
of such bids. (Property in care of Mrs. Breckenridge, Mrs. O'Hara's daughter).
A progress report by Mr. Grabarz on property located at 730 W. LaSalle
Avenue, owned by Donald and Nellie Carpenter was given to the Board.
Inasmuch as Mr. and Mrs. Carpenter failed to appear at this meeting as
directed, and since the repair orders have not been carried out, it was
the decision of the Board to order such property demolished.
WEIGHTS & MEASURES MONTHLY REPORT
A Report for the month of June, 1962 from the Department of Weights &
Measures was accepted by the Board and ordered placed on file.
There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting was
adjourned at 10:40 A.M.
