July 2, 1962
A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday, July 2,
1962 at 10:00 A.M. DST. All members were present. Minutes of the last
regular meeting were read and approved. Vouchers were approved and ordered
paid to the various suppliers.
OPENING OF BIDS ( FIRE DEPARTMENT ---PUMPER
The time now being after 10:00 A.M. it was so announced and bids for
the 1,500 Gallon pumper for the Fire Department were opened and read
aloud. Proofs of Publication from The South Bend Tribune and The Record
were found sufficient.
The following bid was received"and the following Company submitted a
letter concernang-;the bid on Pumper:
The Seaarave Corporation
860 S. Northwest Highway
Barrington, Ill.
Letter submitted advising the Board that this Company does not manufacture
1,500 G.P.M. fire pumper such as is called for in the specifications.
The letter was ordered placed on file.
Maxim Motor Company
Middleboro, Mass.
1 - Maxim Custom Built Pumper - Model F-26215 1500 Gallon Triple
Combination Motorized Pumping Fire Apparatus in Accordance
with speciflcations Complete $301,590.74
Above price includes radio, as per specifications, installed.

Bid Bond for $39300.009 signed by Irene Prange, Attorney in Face
and countersigned by Herb Bietz.
Non -collusion Affidavit, signed by J. C. Whitcomb,,Pres.
This bid will be examined and taken under advisement.
OPENING OF BIDS -(-FIRE DEPARTMENT --PAINTING OF STATIONS 6.7.8 AND CENTRAL )
The time now being after 10:00 A.M. it was so announced and the Board
called for bids to be opened for the painting of Fire Dtations Nos. 6, 7
8'and Central Station.
Proofs of Publication from The South Bend Tribune with affidavit signed by
Robert DeLong and The Record with affidavit signed by Kathleen Sweitzer
were found sufficient.
The Clerk of the Board announced that no bids had been received for the
above proposed contract and he was directed by the Board to re -advertise
on July 6, July 13. Bids will be opened on July 16, 1962.
COMPLAINT: COUNCILMAN MUSZYNSKI ( ILLEGAL PARKING OF TRUCKS
A complaint from Councilman Muszynski to the Common Council that he has
had numerous complaint regarding illegal parking of trucks, trucks
parked with motors running, causing unnecessary noise and trucks speeding:_;
through Swygart Street and Indiana Avenue between Prairie and Walnut was
referred to the Police Department for investigation and report.

POLICE DEPARTMENT ( ATTEND CONFERENCE- KASPRZAK
Permission was granted to Captain John Kasprzak of the Police Records
and Identification Department to attend the annual Conference of the
International Association of �ndentification Officers in St. Louis,
Missouri July 22,tb'July 26, 1962.
POLICE DEPARTMENT ( ATTEND GEN. STAFF SCHOOL U.S. ARMY - INST. HUNT )
Permission was given to Inspector R. Hunt of the Police Department to
attend the 2nd Year Command and General Staff School of the U.S. Army
at Camp McCox, Wisconsin from July 1 to\July 14, 1962. Inspector Hunt
will leave town at 6:00 A.M. on July 1 and shall return on July 14,
1962 at aproximately 5:00 P.M.
In Inspector',HUnt's report he states that he will be absent for nine
working days so that these days should be deducted from accumulated time
of working days off. This is not accumulated time for hours over and
above eight hours a day, but days off that Inspector Hunt has worked.
APPLICATIONS (---POLICE DEPARTMENT )
The following applications for the Police Department were accepted and
ordered placed on file: Richard"Bernard Isban, William Sterling Fish,
Jr.
PETITION: STREET LIGHT ( ELECTRICAL DEPT. )
A Petition for a street light on Walnut Street between Donald and
Calvert Streets was referred to Nicholas Horvath, Electrical Department
for investigation and recommendation.
STREET LIGHT OUTAGE REPORTS
Street Light Outage Reports were accepted and ordered placed on file.
BUILDING DEPARTMENT HOUSE MOVE
With reference to the house move from 220 W. Navarre Street to Elmgr
and Elwood which was continued from May 26, 1962 to this date, hearing
was continued until July 9, 1962. Mr. Grabarz was directed to check with
the Engineering Department concerning the proposed move, and report to
the Board on July 9, 1962.
With reference to the property located at 807 N. Hill Street, owned by
Mr. Pustay, this hearing was continued until August 8, 1962.
The, structure located at 317 S. Franklin Street, owned by the Dolgbs
family, will be torn down and the family requested permission to make a
parking lot at this location.
The Board informed the owners that they must conform to the parking
ordinance of the City of South Bend and that signs must be posted in
accordance with regulations.
Mr. Grabarz advised the Board that he had received bids for demolition of
structure located at 206 Chicago Street. The following bids were
received:
E. J. Demolishing Co.
B & 0 Wrecking Co.
$150.00
100.00 with salvage
250.00 no salvage.
The bid will be awarded to the B & 0 Wrecking Co., for $100.00 with
salvage.

The Board was advised that the property located at 326 LincolnWay East,
owned by Mrs., Elmer Peak, will be boarded up.
Mr. Grabarz requested permission to advertise for bids for demolition
of the Breckenridge property located at 1802 Randolph Street.
Permission granted and Mr. Grabarz was directed to notife the owners
of such intention.
There being°no further business to come before the Board, the meeting was
adjourned at 10:L5 A.M.
