June 18, 1962
A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday,
June 18, 1962 at 10:00 A.M. DST. All members were present. Minutes
of the last regular meeting were read and approved. Vouchers were -
approved and ordered paid to the various suppliers.
At the meeting of the Board of Public Safety comes now Officer Edmund
Hageniers vih o is charged with violation of the Rules and Regulations
of the South Bend Police Department, on June 15, 1962.
Officer Edmund Hageniers accepted delivery of the charge in hand personally.
Said officer waives letter notice and agrees to hearing being held on
this date.
Officer Hageniers admits that he violated Rules and Regulations of the
Police Department by his failure to make two checks to the Sergeant
at the desk of the South Bend Police Department and that in failing to
make said checks he violated Rules 5, 6 and 19.
After hearing the charges, it was the decision of the Board that Officer
Hageniers be suspended from June 16, 1962 to June 30, 1962. Based on
the Chief's recommendation, Officer Hageniers will work during this
period without pay.
REFERRAL: LETTER FROM TRANSAMERICAN FREIGHT LINES. INC. - TRAFFIC ENGINEER
A letter from Nr. H. H. Erdman-, Vice President of Operations of Transamerican
Freight Lines, Inc. addressed to Mr. Ray Andrysiak was submitted to the
Board.
The letter, with reference to truck traffic to Transamerican property in
South Bend was referred to the Traffic Engineer for investigation and
report.
PERMISSION TO ADVERTISE ( FIRE DEPARTMENT - PAINT FIRE STATIONS )
Permission was granted to the fire Chief to have advertisements placed
in The South Bend Tribune and The Record for bids on painting of the
trim and canopy of Fire Stations Nos. 6, 7 and 8 and Central Station.
Bids will be opened on July 2, 1962. Advertisements will appear on
June 22 and June 29, 1962.
TRAFFIC ENGINEER (TRAFFIC SIGNS )
Following the recommendation of Clem Hazinski, Traffic Engineer, the
following installations were approved:
2 - 2 Hour Signs to cover 737 N. Lawndale Ave.
2 - 2 Hour Signs to cover 706 E. Jefferson Blvd.
BUILDING DEPARTMENT - SUB -STANDARD DIVISION ( HEARINGS )
Comes now Lyndon E. Scheid, 1456 Lincolnway East, owner of property
located at 213 E. Paris Street to show cause why repair orders had not
been complied with.
Mr. Scheid informed the Board that he had sold the property under Land
Contract and was under •the impression the buyer was making the necessary
repairs.
At his request, and at the request of John Grabarz, Director of Sub -Standard
Division, this case was Continued until August 20, 1962.
With reference to property owned by John and Pearl Harris, located at 1615
S. William Street, John Grabarz was directed to proceed with demolition
of said property and to notify owners by letter os said intention.
With reference to property owned by Mr. Vernon W. Scott, located at
206 S. Chicago Street, Mr. Grabarz informed the Board that the structure
has been condemned by the Health Department in accordance with Burns
Statutes 35-2714 and the County Health Department in correspondence with
the Board authorized said Board to act as agents to execute Condemnation
Order.
Permission was granted Mr. Grabarz to advertise for bids to demolish
this structure.
MINUTES OF MEETING OF CIVIL DEFENSE ADVISORY COUNCIL
The Minutes of the meeting of June 13� 19629 of the Department of Civil
Defense were accepted and ordered placed on file.
STREET LIGHT OUTAGE REPORTS
Street Light Outage Reports were accepted and ordered placed on file.
POLICE DEPARTMENT ( APPLICATION )
An application from Ronald Russell St. Germain for the Police Department
was accepted and ordered placed on file.
POLICE AUXILIARY SCHOOL PATROL ( APPLICATIONS
An application for the Police Auxiliary School Patrol from Mrs. Mary
Ann Wawrzynczak was accepted and ordered placed on file.
FIRE DEPARTMENT ( APPLICATION ) I
An application for the Fire Department from Ronald Porogi was accepted
and ordered placed on file.
There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting
was adjourned at 10:45 A.M.
