HomeMy WebLinkAbout06/11/62 Board of Public Works Minutesam June I1, 1962 A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday, June I19 1962 at 10:00 A.M. All members were present. Minutes of the last regular meeting were read and approved. Vouchers were approved and ordered paid to the various suppliers. AWARDING OF BID_( BUILDING DEPARTMENT — SEDAN ) After due examination, and since the bid of Gates Chevrolet Corp. for the Sedan for the Building Department seems to be the lowest and best bid, the Board hereby decides to award such bid to this Corporation. Gabs Chevrolet Corporation 333 W. Western Avenue South Bend, Indiana 1 - 1962 Chevrolet Chevy II, Two Door Sedan $29127.50 Less allowance for Federal Excise Tax 156.00 Less allowance for one 1956 Stude. $1,971.90 2 Door Sedan 476.90 Net Price $1,495.00 This bid is awarded, subject to all specifications being met by the Corporation. BUILDING DEPARTMENT ( ATTEND CONFERENCE ) Comes now Verner Lane, Suilbing Commissioner, and requests permission to attend a conference of the National Industry Advisory Committee on Wood Roof Truss Design at Purdue University on June 28 and June 299 1962. Permission granted by the Board. BUILDING DEPARTMENT SUB -STANDARD DIV. ( BEARINGS ) Comes now Mr. Andrew Pustay with reference to property owned by him and Catherine Pustay, located at 720 E. Keasey Street to show cause why the repairs ordered by the Sub -Standard Division have not been made. Mr. Pustay reported to the Board that he had made the major repairs. The Board directed Mr. John Grabarz to meet with Mr. Pustay, inspect the premises, and report back to the Board on June 18, 1962. SUB —STANDARD DIVISION ( DEMOLITION BIDS ) Mr. Grabarz reported the following bids on demolition of property located at 106-108 Sadie Street: A. J. Demolition B 8 0 Wrecking Co. $150.00 200.00 The bid is hereby awarded to the A. J.,Demolition Co. BUILDING DEPARTMENT MONTHLY REPORT A Report for the month of May, 1962 was submitted by the Building Department, accepted and ordered placed on file. POLICE DEPARTMENT ( MILITARY LEAVE ) The Board approved a request for leave of absence from July 19 through, July 15, 1962 in order to attend U.S. Army Reserve Summer Training, whibh is mandatory. Officer F. J. Gantert requests said leave. Permission granted. 0 1 I 51` POLICE DEPARTMENT_ REQUEST TO MOVE OufSIDE CITY LIMITS Following the recommendation of Chief Harman, the Board approved a contemplated move by Detective Sergeant E. R. Bergman to Harrison. Avenue, north of Darden Road, which is four blocks from the present City Limits. Officer Bergman has been on the force for 15 years. FIRE DEPARTMENT ( APPLICATION) An application for the Fire Department from George Byron Radanovich was accepted and ordered placed on file. TRAFFIC ENGINEER ( TRAFFIC SIGNS ) Following the recommendation of Clem Hazinski, Traffic Engineer, the Board approved the following installation; 2 - 30 Minutes Parking Limit signs to cover 623 E. LaSalle St. STREET LIGHT OUTAGE REPORTS Street Light Outage.Reports were accepted and ordered placed on file. WEIGHTS & MEASURES MONTHLY REPORT A Report for the month of May, 1962 from the Department of heights & Measures was accepted and placed on file. Mr. Cichowicz, City Sealer, reported that every gasoline pump in the City of South Bend has now been checked and tested for accuracy of delivery, money computers checked, hoses and seals checked, etc. Another.100% inspection will be completed this season with spot-checks thereafter. Mr. Cichowicz also reported that he had invited the Indiana Association of Inspectors of Weights & Measures to hold their 50th Annual Conference in South Bend in April, 1963. This is in line with Mayor Bruggner's desire to encourage conferences and conventions in South Bend as a stimulus to the City's business.
