A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday,
April 9, 1962 at 10:00 A.M. CST. All members were present. Minutes
of the last regular meeting were read and approved. 4ouchers were
approved and ordered paid to the various suppliers.
TRAFFIC ENGINEER TRAFFIC SIGNALS
Following th-e recommendation of the Traffic Engineer, ':he following
installations were approved:
Stop Signs installed on each of the 4 corners of intersection
of Byron and York streets, making this a 4-way stop.
Stop Signs installed on parallel Street, both sides, at Jackson.
Stop Sign installed on Campeau Street, northeast corner, at
Twyckenham Drive.
FIRE DEPARTMENT APPLICATION
An application for the Fire Department from Eugene Joseph Stachowiak
was accepted and ordered placed on file.
ELECTRICAL DEPARTMENT PETITION - STREET LIGHT
A Petition from Mr. and Mrs. Alex Stachowiak and others for a street
light on Bendix Drive between Ford and Dunham Streets was referred to
the Electrical Department for investigation and recommendation.
STREET LIGHT OUTAGE REPORTS
Street Light Outage Reports were accepted and ordered placed on file.
BUILDING DEPARTMENT PERMISSION TO ADVERTISE - SEDAN )
Comes now:'Verner_.Lane, Building Commissioner, and requests permission
to have advertisements placed for the purchase of a new Four Door Sedan
for use of his Department.
Permission granted, upon assurance from Mr. Lane that there is sufficient
money in the budget for such a purchase.
Advertisements will appear in The South Bend Tribune and The Record on
April 27 and May 4, 1962 and bids will be opened on May 7, 1962.
BUILDING DEPARTMENT (,MONTHLY REPORT
A Report from the Building Department for the month of March, 1962 was
accepted and ordered placed on file.
BUILDING DEPARTMENT ( ATTEND CONFERENCE - COL UyiBUS )
Comes now Verner Lane and requests permission to attend a conference in
Columbus, Ohio from May 19 through May 249 1962. The Conference is for
the Annual Conference of Building Cfficials of America. Mr. Lane requests
further that Mr. Grabarz be permitted to attend this conference. '

BUILDING DEPARTMENT - SUB -STANDARD DIVISION HEARINGS '�
Comes now Mr. Dan C. Cole, 506 29th Street, with a Petition from residents
on and near 29th Street and requests the immddiate removal of a building
located at 502 S. 29th Street. The Petition states that the building has
been condemned by the Sub -Standard Division of the Building Department
as of September, 1961. It has also been set afire in October; 1961 and
is polluted in the basement with trash and debris left by former occupants.

Mr. Grabarz reported that Mr. George Blair, the present owner had
requested permission to bring property up to standard. Since Mr.
Blair had repaired other structures which he had purchased up to
standard, permission was granted to make the necessary repairs on
the structurebca'ted at 502 S. 29th Street. The building had been
boarded up, as ordered, but children in the neighborhoodo�—with ri
the past few weeks had removed some,of the boards and done considerable
damage to the structure.
After hearing all parties concerned who appeared, the Board ruled
that the case be continued for one week at which time Mr. Blair will
be ordered to be present for a hearing. If he does not appear, the
building will be ordered demolished.
Mr. Grabarz was directed to so notify Mr. Blair of this decision.
The Petition from Mr. Cole was ordered placed on file.
With reference to property owned by Andrew Daniels, located at,1721
N. Elmer Street, Mr. Grabarz reported that the owner had taken out
a permit to demolish the building.
CERTIFICATE OF INSURANCE ( WYMF:AN'_S'. DEPARTMENT STORE )
In accordance with instructions from the Board, a Certificate of
Insurance showing coverage for Workmen's Compensation, including
Occupational Disease, Public Liability, Contractor's Protective and
Property Damage, effective April 21 1962 to April 2, 1963 was submitted
to the Board.
The Certificate of Insurance was accepted by the Board and ordered:
placed on file.
There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting
was adjourned at 10:45 A.M. �1
