A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held on Monday, March
129 1962 at 10:00 A.M. CST. All members were present. Minutes of the last
regular meeting were read and approved. Vouchers were approved and ordered
paid to the various suppliers:,
OPENING OFF BIDS CENTRAL FIRE STATION ROOF)
The time now_being after 10:00 A.M. it was so announced and bids for the
construction of a new roof on Central Fire Station were opeded and read
aloud. Proofs of Publication from The South Bend Tribune with affidavit
signed by Robert DeLong and The Record with affidavit signed by Kathleen
Sweitzer were found sufficient.
The following bids were received:

including cant strips, composition flashings 24-gauge galvanized
iron counter flashings and gravel stop on main roof at Central

If dead -level bitumen and asphalt felt are used in liew of
coal tar pitch and tarred felt,_deduct 140.00

The bids will be examined by the Building Department and will be awarded
within the statutory limits.
BUILDING DEPARTMENT ( SUB -STANDARD DIVISION) HEARING
With reference to property located at 325 S. Camden Street, owned'by
Jewell and Pearline Love, it appears that notice addressed to the owners
requesting them to appear before the Board to show cause why condemnation
orders issued against this property have been ignored was received -,rand
since the owners have failed to appear, as directed, the Board now
directs the Building Department to take the necessary steps for
condemnation and destruction of the above -mentioned property.
POLICE DEPARTMENT ( ATTEND SOUTHERN POLICE INSTITUTE,
With the approval of Police chief Harman, the Board grant permission for
Det. Sgt. Michael Santa to attend the Southern Polite Institute, Louisville,
Ky., from March 26 to June 15, inclusive.
APPLICATION AUXILIARY SCHOOL PATROL
An application for Auxiliary School Patrol from Gertrude Hayum was accepted
and ordered placed on file.
SPECIAL POLICEMAN'S BOND( RENEWAL)
Special Policeman's Bond for Albert A. Vascil was accepted and ordered
placed on file.
ELECTRICAL DEPARTMENT_
Following the recommendation of Nicholas Horvath, Superintendent of the
Electrical Department, the following street light installations were
approved:
1 - 4000 lumen street light at 616 Lindsey St.
1 - 4000 lumen street light at 611 Pierce St.
STREET LIGHT OUTAGE REPORTS
Street Light Optage Reports were accepted and ordered placed on file.
DEPARTMENT OF WEIGHTS & MEASURES REPORT
A Report for the month of -February from the Department of Weights &
Measures was accepted and ordered placed on file.
BIDS ELECTRICAL DEPARTMENT TRUCK_
After examination of the bids submitted for the Electrical Department
Truck, -it was found that the Electrical Department does not have sufficient
funds in the budget to meet the bidssubmitted.
Therefore, no action will be taken on the procurement of a truck at this
time and no bid will be awarded.
There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting was
adjourned at.10:45 A.M.
