HomeMy WebLinkAboutAuthorizing the Mayor to submit an application for a Governor's discretionary grant through the Indiana Office of Occupational DevelopmentRESOLUTION NO. 837 -80 Passed by the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana Attest: November 24, 19 80 Presented by me to the Mayor of the City of South Bend, Indiana Approved and signed by November 25. �9 80 1.5- v Clerk of Common Council 19 po City Clerk RESOLUTION NO. 837 -80 A RESOLUTION FOR THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO SUB- MIT AN APPLICATION FOR A GOVERNOR'S DISCRETIONARY GRANT, UNDER THE COMPREHENSIVE EMPLOYMENT AND TRAIN- ING ACT, THROUGH THE INDIANA OFFICE OF OCCUPATIONAL DEVELOPMENT, WHEREAS, the City of South Bend, acting through the Office of the Mayor and the Common Council, has aggressively and successfully sought to improve South Bend's economy by initiating and supporting economic development projects which increase the City's tax base, job opportunities, and local incomes; and WHEREAS, the City of South Bend, acting through the Office of the Mayor and Common Council, has aggressively and successfully sought out federal assist- ance to support local efforts and to supplement local resources; and WHEREAS, the purpose of the Governor's Discretionary Fund is to strengthen the links between economic development activities and CETA efforts to provide employment for low to moderate income persons; and WHEREAS, the City of South Bend would like to implement a development packaging and job targeting mechanism to be utilized principally in economic development activities that have a substantial potential for job creation; and WHEREAS, the Mayor is the chief executive officer of the City, and is the applicant for a Governor's Discretionary Grant through the Indiana Office of Occupational Development. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana: SECTION I: Hereby establishes the authority of the Mayor of the City of South Bend to submit an application for funds in the amount of Forty -two Thousand Six Hundred Twenty Dollars ($42,620.00) to the Governor's Discretionary Fund through the Indiana Office of Occupational Development. SECTION II: Hereby designates the Department of Redevelopment as the Administrative Agent for the program. PARENT, Mayor COUNTY -CITY BUILDING SOUTH BEND, INDIANA 46601 November 19, 1980 Members of the Common Council 441 County /City Building South Bend, IN 46601 Dear Council Members: Attached is a resolution authorizing the Mayor to submit an application for a Governor's Discretionary Grant in the amount of $42,620.00 to the Indiana Office of Occu- pational Development. The Governor's Discretionary Fund is part of the Comprehensive Employment and Training Act and is being used to strengthen the links between economic development activities and CETA efforts to Dro- vide employment for low to moderate income individuals. The Department of Redevelopment intends to use the grant to provide staff and support services for the purpose of carrying out economic development activities which will create new jobs in South Bend. The staff will also work closely with the Department of Redevelopment's Targeted Jobs Coordinator to see that a portion of these new jobs are filled by low to moderate income individuals. We feel that this grant will enable the City of South Bend to continue its aQ4ressive efforts to continue to improve our economy. I urge your favorable consideration of this resolution.
