HomeMy WebLinkAbout12/16/68 Board of Public Works MinutesDecemaer 16, 1968 A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety met at 10:00 A.M. on December 16,- 1968 with all members present. The minutes of the previous meeting were 'reviewed and approved. FIRE DEPARTMENT - RETIREMENT - EUGENE LUCKOWSKI Eugene Luckowski of the South Bend Fire Department having filed with the Board of Public Safety his notice of retirement, and said officer having been with the Department since February,12, 1948, the Board hereby approved retirement effective December 15, 1968. APPLICATION FOR APPOINTMENT - FIRE DEPARTMENT The following applications for appointment to the Fire Department were filed and referred to the Personnel Director for further processing: David Russell Vaughn James Marion Ci.nal Timothy James Makowski POLICZ DEPARTMENT - APPLICATION FOR APPOINTMENT The following applications for appointment to the Police Department were filed and referred to the Personnel Director for further processing: Donald Frank Erhardt, Jr. Edward David Miley APPLICATION FOR APPOINTMENT AS SPECIAL POLICE OFFICER DONALD L WEBB The application of Donald L. Webb for appointment as a special police officer for the Bendix Corporation was approved by the Board. TRAFFIC REPORT FOR NOVEMBER, 1968 - POLICE DEPARTMENT The Traffic Report for November, 1968, of the Police Department was reviewd and filed by the Board. STATISTICAL REPORT FOR NOVEMBER,,` 19683 - POLICE DEPARTMENT The Statistical Report for November, 1968, was reviewed and filed by the Board. REC3UENDATION OF CITY ENGINEER RE: PETITION FOR STREET LIGHT IMPROVEMENT IN THE AREAS OF 29th ST., ETC. After review and study and careful investigation the City Engineer recommends the following installations: 7000 lumen mercury vapors in the following areas: 1302 S. 29th Street 518 E. Broadway 530-534 S. Illinois Mid -block of Fassnacht Mid -block of Hartzer 111891124 Cleveland Ave. Intersection of Wilber and Kinyon 1646 Greenwood 1128 E. Corby St. 522 S. Liberty 1801 S. Carlisle St.(across from) 1209 Hillcrest (across from) Intersection of Hillside and Phillipa Mid -block of Kenwood 725-729 S. Phillipa 1513 N. Wilber 814 E. Indiana Ave. 716 S. Illinois 613 Sherman St. 20,000 lumen mercury vapor in the following area: 1003 W. Western Ave. at the request of the engineering department. Replacement and relocation of 4000 lum. incandescent to 7000 lumen mercury at Calvert and Lafayette --- The above recommendations of the engineer were approved by the Board. The following installations were also approved by the Board upon the recommendation of the city engineer: 1 F 7,000 lumen mercury vapor at: 826-530 S. 36th Redwing 20' E. Maple midblock of 1000 & 1100 S. 32nd 1302 S. 29th St. midblock alley on -Sherman between Lindsey and VanBuren Increase 1000 lumen "Bug Light" in Horne Court to a 7,000 lumen mercury vapor RECM ENDATION OF CITY ENGINEER RE: SAMPLE STREET FRCM L.W.E. TO MAYFLOWER ROAD The following proposal was submitted to the engineering department by I & M and was approved by the Board: L. W. E. to Lafayette; replacement of 42-15,000 incandescent with 42 - 20,000 lumen mercury vapor Lafayette to Arnold; improved at an earlier date and has existing 20,000 mercury vapor system. Arnold to Lombardy; replacement of 41 variously sized incandescent lumens with 80 201000 lumen mercury vapor Lombardy to Mayflower; replacement of 5 variously sized incandescent lumens with 11 - 7,000 lumen mercury vapor with 1 - 20,000 lumen mercury-vapor at corner of Mayflower & Sample RECCiv MDATION OF CITY ENGINEER RE: WESTERN AVE BETWEEN GLADSTONE & MAYFLOWER The following proposal was submitted to the engineering department by -1 & M Elec. and was approved by the Board: Replacement of 13 variously sized incandescents with 20 - 20,000 lumen mercury vapor system. RECOMMENDATION OF CITY ENGINEER RE: AIRPORT INDUSTRIAL, PHASE II The following proposal was submitted to the engineering department by I & M Elec. and was approved by the Board: Installation of 12 - 71000 lumen mercury vapor lumenaires. This system will match the system of Phase I. REMOVAL OF THREE PARKING METERS 100 BLOCK E. WAYNE STREET Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried; the Board approved the recommendation of the Traffic Engineer for the removal of three parking meters on Jhe north side of the 100 block of E. Wayne Street due to the need for an addi#6nal lane for right turning vehicles. This curb space will then be posted "NO PARKING" "NO PAMING" -, 100 BLOCK W. SAMPLE STREET Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Board approved the recommendation of the Traffic Engineer for the posting of 'no parking' signs on the north side of street in 1st 2 block west.of Michigan St. on Sample Street. STREET LIGHT OUTAGE REPORTS Street light outage reports for the period 12/5/68 to 12/13/68 were filed. There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting adjourned at 11:35 A.M.
