HomeMy WebLinkAbout11/25/68 Board of Public Works Minutes383 November 25, 1968 A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety convened at 10:00 A.M., on November 25, 1968, with all members present. PROMOTIONS - POLICE DEPARTMENT Upon the recommendation of Chief of Police Thomas McNaughton, upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board approved the promotions of James Sweitzer, Daniel Niedbalski and Edward Wawrzyniak to the rank of sergeant, effective :December 1, 1968. SICK LEAVE EXTENDED - DAVID HATALA - POLICE DEPARTMENT Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board approved the recommendation of Chief of Polim-Thomas McNaughton for an extension of sick leave, due to being injured in an auto accident, for 30 days from November 22, 1968, to and including December 22, 1968, for Officer David Hatala. Lloyd S. Taylor abstained from voting. SPECIAL POLICE COMMISSION CANCELLED - RICHARD WARREN WARNER Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Board approved the �J cancellation of special police commission of Richard Warren Warner, Mr. V Warner having resigned from the guard service of American District Telegraph Company, 224 W. Jefferson Boulevard, South Bend and having requested said cancellation. APPOINTMENT TO FIRE DEPARTMENT - DAVID JASICKI Upon the recommendation of Fire Chief Joseph L. Zurat, the Board, upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, approved the appointment of David Jasick! 727 Diamond Avenue, South Bend, Indiana, to the South Bend Fire Department, effective December 1, 1968. REQUEST TO ADVERTISE FOR PUMPER FOR FIRE DEPARTMENT Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Board approved the request of Fire Chief Joseph L. Zurat to advertise for bids"foe..a.4500 G.P.M. custom pumper. And the Clerk was instructed to advertise for bids in the South Bend Tribune and the Tri County News on November 29 and December 6, 1968, for bids to be received on January 6, 1969. STREET LIGHT REQUEST - LAFAYETTE AND W. CALVERT Request by Perm -Volt Transformers, Inc. for a street light to be installed at the corner of S. Lafayette Street and W. Calvert Street at their plant was filed with the Board, and referred to the Traffic Engineer for investi- gation and recommendation. STREET SIGNS APPROVED Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Board approved the recommendation of the Traffic Engineer for the installation of the following street signs: STOP SIGN - on the northwest corner of Sample and Albert. on on the the northwest northwest corner corner of of Sample Sample and and Illinois. Wellington. on the northwest corner of Sample and Falcon. on the southeast corner of Sample and Industrial Drive. on the northwest corner of Sample and Lake. on the northwest corner of Sample and Kentucky. on the northwest corner of Sample and Camden. on the northwest corner of Sample and Liberty. on the northwest corner of Sample and Bendix on the northwest corner of Sample and Kaley. on the northwest corner of Sample and Meade. on the southeast corner of Indiana and Carlisle. on the southwest corner of Hillside and Carlisle. 1384 LEFT TURN ON ARROW ONLY signs at Edison and' Ironwood. Change of YIELD sign on Calvert at Carlisle to STOP sign. REMOVAL OF SIX PARKING METERS - 300 BLOCK W. COLFAX Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Board approved the recommendation of the Traffic Engineer for the removal of six parking meter heads on the south side of the 300 block on West Colfax Avenue, east of William Street, effective as of November 19, 1968, such removals due to the demolition of the Central Junior High School Building at William and Colfax. APPLICATION - POLICE DEPARTMENT The application of David Chester Williams for appointment. to the Police Department was filed and referred to the Personnel Director for further processing. STREET LIGHT OUTAGE REPORTS Street light outage reports for the period 11/11/68 to 11/22/68 were ordered filed.
