A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety convened at 10:00
A.M., on November 12, 1968, with all members present. The minutes of the
previous meeting were reviewed and approved.
APPOINTMENTS - FIRE DEPARTMENT
Upon recommendation of Fife Chief Joseph L. 2urat, upon motion made, seconded
and unanimously carried, the Board approved the following appointments to
the South Bend Fire Department, effective November 16, 1968:
David Daren - 727 N#ier Street, South Bend, Indiana
Michael Dombrowski - 715 N. Brookfield, South Bend, Indiana
Vincent Chrapliwy - 407 E. Indiana Avenue, South Bend, Indiana
James Flowers - 1713 N. O'Brien Street, South Bend, Indiana
APPOINTMENT - POLICE DEPARTMENT
Upon the recommendation of Chief of Police Thomas McNaughton, the Board, upon
motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, approved the appointment to the
South Bend Police Department of Robert William Peterson, 215 S. Notre Dame
Avenue, South Bend, Indiana.
APPLICATIONS - POLICE DEPARTMENT
The following applications for appointment to the Police Department were
received and filed, and.referred to the Personnel Director for further process-
ing:
Lillian Catherine Baker
Charles William Harrison
Richard Lee Rozmarynowski
Earl Thomas Wisniewski
APPLICATION - FIRE DEPARTMENT
The application for appointment to the Fire Department of Harold Robert Bailey
was received and filed, and referred to the Personnel Director for further
processing.
PETITION FOR STREET LIGHT - ALLEY BETWEEN FREMONT AND ,MEADE
A petition for street light at the alley between Fremont and Meade, signed by
Robert and Helen Cardiff, 1145 N. Fremont Street and 11 others, was filed with
the Board and referred to the Traffic Engineer for investigation and recommendation.
STREET SIGNS APPROVED
Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Board approved the
recommendation of the Traffic Engineer for the following street signs:
The removal of "Yield" sign at Dubail and Vernon Streets, to be
replaced with "Stop" signs.
The installation of three two-hour limit signs at 1015 Dubail to 1021 Dubail.
PARKING METERS REINSTALLED - 100 Block of East LaSalle
The Traffic. -.Engineer reports all of the parking meters have been reinstalled in
the 100 block of E. LaSalle where the bridge sidewalks and railings have been
replaced.
ONE -HOUR PARKING METERS APPROVED - 100 BLOCK LINCOLNWAY EAST
Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Board approved the
recommendation of the Traffic Engineer for the installation of three one -hour
parking meters on the south side of, -the 100 block of Lincolnway..iast.

SPECIAL POLICE OFFICERS' BOND - SOUTH BEND TRIBUNE
Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Board approved
special police officers' bond filed on behalf of South Bend Tribune for
special police officers Frank J. Wolfinger, Darwin Earl Wilkerson, Stanley
Harrison ,Mitchell, Matthew Joseph Sarec and Chester Casimer Spychalski
for the period to 11/1 7
SPECIAL POLICE OFFICER'S BOND -- JOHN KERESZTURY
Special police officer's bond #424 006 on behalf of John Veresztury to
September 9, 1969, was, upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried,
approved by ,he Board.
STATISTICAL REPORTS FOR OCTOBER, 1968 - POLICE DEPARTMENT
Statistical reports for October, 1068, for the Police Department were
reviewed and ordered filed.
STREET LIGHT OUTAGE REPORTS
Street light outage reports for the period October 20, 1968 to November 7,
1968, were ordered filed.
There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting
adjourned at 10:55 A.M.
