HomeMy WebLinkAbout11/04/68 Board of Public Works MinutesNovember 4, 1968. A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety convened at 10:05 A.M., with all members present. The minutes of the previous meeting were re- viewed and approved. RETIREMENT FROM POLICE DEPARTMENT - EDWARD STAN LEY SLABY Chief Thomas McNaughton submitted the application for retirement of Edward Stanley Slaby, Mr. Slaby having been appointed to the Police Department on October 11, 1948, and having served more than 20 years. Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, the Board approved the retirement effective October 31, 1968. REQUEST FOR POLICE OFFICERS TO ATTEND INSTITUTE Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the Board approved the request of Police Chief Thomas McNaughton for Sergeants William Floring, Erwin Gerschoffer, Arnold Bennett and Albert Poelvoorde to attend a course on the scientific investigation of crime at the Southern Police Institute in Louisville, Kentucky, January 6 to January 17, 1969. STREET LIGHT REQUESTS Petitions for street lights were filed with the Board as follows: 1124 E. Corby Street - by Cy J. Cesulka, 1120 E..Corby Street, and 13 others. 619 Sherman. Street - by Madge Urban, 623 Cushing Street, and 14 others. Illinois Street, between Ford and Bella Vista - by Edward Gazler, 715 S. Illinois and 26 others. Hill Street, between Colfax and South Bend Avenue, .South Bend Avenue, from Hill to Notre Dame, Notre Dame Avenue, between South Bend Avenue and Angela Boulevard, filed by Notre Dame University. Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the petitions were referred to Traffic Engineering for investigation and recommendation. EMPLOYEES' SAFETY COMMITTEE The Board directed that the following notice be sent to all Department Heads concerning the Employees' Safety Committee: "In recent discussions with Mr. William Wukovits, safety engineer for Aetna Casualty and Surety Company it has been brought to.our attention that a certain laxity in adherence to the safety program exists. "For some unknown reason all of the Departments are not being repre- sented at the monthly safety meetings held. You are reminded that attendance at these meetings is mandatory not permissive, and the chairman of the Safety Committee is Tieing directed to report absentees to the Board of Public Works and Safety. "At the July meeting, we are advised it was agreed upon that copies of Departmental safety meeting minutes were to be forwarded to Mr. Wukovits. To date only two such reports have been received. Bickel" APPLICATIONS - FIRE DEPARTtENT The application of Daniel Leo Meller for appointment to the Fire Department was filed and referred to the Personnel Director for further processing. APPLICATIONS - POLICE DEPARTMENT The applications of Cullen Walton, Jr. and William Allen Mb'i.Har for appointment to the Police Department were filed and referred to the Personnel Director for; -further processing. STREET LIGHT OUTAGE REPORTS Street light outage reports for the period 10/24/68 to 10/30/68 were filed. There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting adjourned at 11:05 A.M. 1 U� Clerk The next regular meeting of the Board will be held on Tuesday, November 12, 1968,the regular meeting date, November 11, being a legal holiday. 1 1
