Re: US
31, US 33 Truck Route - downtown south Bend
Dear Mr. Hazihski:
This is to ac nowledge your letter dated October 9, 1968, trans-
mitting a cop of a resolution by.your Board of Works and Safety
dated Odtober 6, 1968.
In view of th fact that the City of South Bend has now converted
the 100 block of West Madison Street for eastpound movement only,
it is necessa y to make a change in the established State highway
truck route i this area. You recommend that the southbound truck
route be routed westbound over Marion Street, thence south on Main
Street to the present route. This adds two blocks of city streets
to the established truck route.
I have learned that our LaPorte District Office is recommending
a change in our existing truck route resolution dated July 11,
1960, whereby these two additional city blocks 1;ill be added to
the State truck route system. The northbound'_trucks will continue
to turn off of 1.1ain Street eastbound on Madison Street to the
present State highway, and southbound trucks will follow the one-way
street pattern, on Marion Street, thence south on Main Street, and
pick up the present truck route on Main Street at the Madison Street
intersection.
Our division of traffic will make this change by official action
as soon as this recommendation is received. The purpose of this
letter is to confirm that We Will comply With your request in the
estab•tishment of this change in our existing truck route.
Very truly yours,
s/ Robert S. tJhitehead
Chairman"
